About the Role:

The Mom Project is looking for a mission focused engineering manager to work remotely within our distributed Marketplace organization.

As an engineering manager, you will help build and manage a growing team to meet the needs of over 400k active users. You will work with our Director of Engineering, Marketplace along with Product stakeholders to understand the needs of the business and the effort involved in delivering key features. You will operate in a people and technical leadership role to help peers develop highly performant and well tested code. Additionally, you will mentor developers and manage their performance of quality and impact to deliver a user first experience for our moms, dads, and allies.

A day in the life:

• Mentor and lead full-time and contracted engineers with regular one-on-ones.
• Guide and review architecture of the systems you are responsible for.
• Oversee monitoring, improving and maintaining high coding standards in Rails and React.
• Lead and partner with your team to clearly design, document and communicate the systems and features you build.
• Partner with Data Science to implement services and solutions.
• Ensure team deliverables are on track and follow agile processes.
• Help Product estimate development effort involved in delivering key business directives.
• Advocate for and educate peers on current and emerging technologies.
• Assist cross-functionally by troubleshooting and debugging support requests across the business.
• Communicate effectively in written and verbal mediums, tailored for successful remote collaboration.

The skills and abilities you’ll need to succeed:

• 5+ years coding experience in industry adopted back-end languages and frameworks (i.e. C#/.NET, Java/Spring, Ruby/Rails).
• 3+ years coding experience in React or other front end technologies (HTML, CSS, vanilla Javascript).
• 3+ years experience developing RESTful API’s.
• 2+ years experience designing or evolving complex application architectures.
• 2+ years of experience managing agile teams.
• 2+ years of experience using cloud-based infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• AWS Cloud experience (bonus)
• Production experience with Elasticsearch (bonus)
