Job description

**Will return to the office in Vancouver, WA on a hybrid schedule**

Summary and Qualifications:

Lead the Benefits, Compensation, Mobility, and HRIS teams. These teams directly impact the attraction, performance, progression, and retention of all Associates.

Plan and direct the design, development, implementation, and execution of practice-wide total rewards packages that are aligned with our Total Rewards philosophy and the Five Principles and support the organization's strategic imperatives.

Partner with the P&O leadership team to define and develop innovative solutions in the areas of HR technology and HR service delivery.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
  • Own and evolve Total Rewards programs targeted at retaining associates, driving our competitive advantage, and the engagement of our associates.
  • Partner with P&O Leadership (PLT), Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and Mars Veterinary Health (MVH) Total Rewards to advise and influence business decisions regarding total rewards strategy and programs.
  • Design and recommend benefits, compensation, immigration and relocation programs aligned with our Five Principles by assessing current and future needs, competitive analysis, industry best practices, and thorough cost impact analysis.
  • Build the HRIS strategy and lead the end-to-end implementation of a coordinated HR systems ecosystem. This includes identifying, developing, implementing, and evaluating key HR systems and process initiatives across multiple platforms, as well as through enterprise systems.
  • Develop, advise, and coordinate communication strategies designed to educate and inform associates about total rewards.
  • In partnership with PLT, oversee the development and management of thoughtful, scalable, P&O guidelines, policies, and processes to positively shape the associate lifecycle in a manner that’s compliant, efficient, and scalable. This may include onboarding, offboarding, Leaves of Absence, immigration, and other compliance-related efforts.
  • Lead and develop direct reports and, support engagement of the team, coach and guide leaders through their careers, and consistently provide feedback and opportunities for long-term growth.
  • Direct solutions to a wide range of challenging problems, with the ability to see and seize new opportunities, with a particular focus on competitive Total Rewards for veterinarians.
  • Deepen the use of analytics and reporting to drive design decision-making.
  • Partner with P&O stakeholders and business leaders to drive data-driven/evidence-based research that addresses critical P&O and business issues.
  • Work closely with P&O leaders and IT to evaluate, assess, and recommend solutions for business needs and system options.
  • Ensure the business is thinking productively and prepared to execute at scale when entering new markets and services.
  • Apply deep knowledge, expertise, and experience in all aspects of benefits, compensation, relocation, immigration, and HRIS; combine innovative thinking with realistic implementation; drive operational excellence and innovation in all areas of responsibility.
  • Demonstrate strong systems thinking and commitment to designing for simplicity; balance what is possible, what is necessary and what is feasible.
  • Demonstrate ability to deal with ambiguous and complex work situations and multiple stakeholders at every level.
  • Exercise exceptional integrity, judgment, and discretion regarding sensitive information.
  • Remain current on industry trends, best practices, compliance, new/progressive processes, etc. that enable the company to achieve higher levels of organizational excellence.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Special Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.
  • Project timelines and work volume/deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete the essential duties of this job.
  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.
  • An environment where pets are present.

Experience, Education, and/or Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or another relevant field is required, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Professional certification in Benefits, Compensation, or Human Resources is preferred.
  • 10 years of progressive leadership responsibility in the areas of benefits, compensation, and HRIS programs and systems are required.
  • Five years of direct management experience are required.
  • Experience in strategy development, planning, compliance, and administration of compensation and benefits programs is required.
  • Experience with executive compensation, compensation committee, and equity/long-term incentive compensation is required.
  • Experience with effectively scaling Total Rewards & HRIS functions to support company business goals and growth, with a focus on industry competitiveness, is required.
  • Strong influencing and communications skills, with the ability to present and represent ideas at all levels of the organization and to get work done through others, including the ability to engage in MT/SLT level discussions that result in clarity of direction and commitment are required.
  • Experience managing HR systems implementations is preferred.
