Part-Time Accounting Manager (100% Remote)

The Mom Project is excited to partner with our client, a Fintech startup backed by major VCs. As a founding member of the finance team, you’ll have the opportunity to build the accounting function from the ground up while ensuring a clear path to GAAP compliance and audit readiness.

This is an initial 6-month contract, with the expectation to renew if mutually agreed upon.

Expected hours per week range from 15-20. The company is open to more hours depending on candidate capacity and experience.

The Role:

• Financial Reporting: Ensure an accurate and timely month-end close by preparing journal entries and account reconciliations for balance sheet accounts.
• Banking and Treasury: Reconcile all bank accounts and keep our operating accounts balanced based on business strategy and requirements.
• AR / Billing: Collaborate with our Data Engineering team to ensure accuracy of invoicing and revenue recognition.
• AP: Build out and own the AP function, ensuring a smooth efficient flow of vendor payments.
• Audit: Assist with the company’s first audit and help keep the team audit-ready going forward.
• FinOps: Prepare special financial reports for key stakeholders by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
• Tax compliance: Manage reporting of all federal and state taxes
• Policies & Procedures: Develop and implement, and ensure that records are maintained in accordance with GAAP and internal control processes

Qualifications / Skills Required:

• You are a month-end close expert and know what it takes to build a robust close process
• 5+ years of Accounting experience (fintech, software, or startup experience is a plus)
• BS in Accounting, Finance or relevant degree
• Big4 or similar audit and assurance experience
• Ability to take projects from zero to one and see them through to completion
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to research new software and automate processes
• Scaled accounting from early stage to later stage (pre-IPO) is a plus

Compensation:

• Hourly range: $65 - $80 per hour commensurate with experience
