Job description
Core Responsibilities
Review and approve monthly transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and GAAP.
Prepare, analyze, and deliver monthly financial statements for clients and their boards.
Supervise, mentor, and train bookkeeping staff, fostering a collaborative, high-performance environment and facilitating professional development.
Oversee client onboarding and ongoing communications, maintaining positive relationships and timely, effective service for all accounts.
Conduct regular quality control checks and investigate and resolve data discrepancies quickly.
Coordinate the timely completion of bookkeeping operations, including monthly close, reconciliations, and variance analyses.
Lead implementation and documentation of best practices and operational procedures for the team.
Assist with annual audits and tax preparation activities, helping ensure completeness and accuracy.
Identify growth opportunities for client accounts and support cross-service delivery (bookkeeping, tax, advisory) and service upgrades.
Maintain compliance with internal controls, nonprofit accounting regulations, and firm policies.
Qualifications/Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred.
- 3+ years of progressive bookkeeping, accounting, or audit experience, with demonstrated leadership skills.
- Advanced knowledge of QuickBooks with a minimum of ProAdvisor Level 1 certification; preference given to ProAdvisor Level 2 certification.
- Strong Excel proficiency.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, capable of collaborating across teams and with diverse nonprofit clients.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Comfortable working remotely and managing multiple client priorities.
- Must be able to meet the requirements of any job-related background checks consistent with applicable law.
- Must pass a reference check.
