Job description

Our Customer is an American financial services mutual organization based in Milwaukee. The financial security company provides consultation on wealth and asset income protection, education planning, retirement planning, investment advisory services, financial planning trust and private client services, estate planning and business planning. Its products include life insurance, permanent life insurance, disability income, and long-term care insurance; annuities; investments; and investment advisory products and services.


Our customer is looking for an Accountant on a contract basis to help support their ongoing business needs. This role is 100% remote.


The Accountant will perform transactional accounting activities for multiple field offices, including voucher processing, journal entries, commissions, monthly close reconciliations, payroll support, 1099 processing, and office-specific accounting projects. This role requires strong accounting knowledge, excellent organization skills, and professional communication, as it involves frequent interaction with field offices across the country.


Hours: 8 am - 4:30 pm CST | Monday - Friday



Responsibilities:

  • Process vouchers and transactional accounting entries in JD Edwards.
  • Enter journal entries and ensure accuracy of debits and credits.
  • Process commissions and support monthly period close activities, including reconciliations.
  • Assist with payroll processing and 1099 reporting.
  • Train new contractors on accounting processes and systems.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with assigned field offices.
  • Support office-specific accounting requests and projects.
  • Communicate professionally with field teams, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
  • Prioritize work effectively in a dynamic environment.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and journal entries (credits/debits).
  • Experience with Excel, including accurate worksheet maintenance and manipulation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook (email and calendaring).
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Technology savvy and able to learn systems quickly (JD Edwards experience is a plus).
  • Professional communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong grammar.


Preferred:

  • Experience supporting multiple offices or distributed teams.
  • Experience in AP, commissions, or multi-entity accounting environments.
  • Experience in JD Edwards.
