Job description
Our Customer is a consumer financial services company headquartered in Connecticut. The company offers consumer financing products, including credit, promotional financing and loyalty programs, installment lending to industries, and FDIC-insured consumer savings products through the consumer bank, its wholly owned online bank subsidiary.
We are seeking an Accountant on a contract basis to support our customer’s ongoing business needs. This role is 100% remote.
This role is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and resolving variances for a wide range of balance sheet account reconciliations, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial data in accordance with GAAP and company policy. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and a keen ability to manage high-volume reconciliations with accuracy and efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations of balance sheet accounts such as cash, commissions receivable/payable, premium liabilities, prepaid and accrued expenses, intercompany balances, and other insurance-related accounts.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely and efficient manner, collaborating with internal teams as needed.
- Ensure all reconciliations are supported and documented per internal control and audit standards.
- Monitor aging of reconciling items and coordinate follow-up with relevant departments.
- Prepare journal entries and supporting schedules for month-end and year-end close processes.
- Collaborate with general ledger, revenue recognition, claims, and treasury teams for proper MGA-related accounting.
- Support internal and external audits regarding reconciliations and balance sheet integrity.
- Identify and implement process improvement or automation opportunities to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience
- 3–5 years of relevant accounting/finance experience
- Strong Microsoft Office proficiency, including intermediate Excel skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Proven ability to manage deadlines and prioritize work independently
- Excellent quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities
