Job description

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Accountant with specialized expertise in ASC 842 lease accounting to join our team for a temporary assignment (minimum commitment of 4 months.) In this role, you will be ensuring the accuracy and compliance of the lease accounting reports for our customers. The ideal candidate will have 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years dedicated to ASC 842, including the preparation and review of lease amortization schedules, journal entries, and the application of lease modification standards. Strong Excel skills, including proficiency in pivot tables and formulas, are essential. Experience with lease accounting software is highly desirable.


Responsibilities:

ASC 842 Lease Accounting Expertise:

  • Prepare and meticulously review lease amortization schedules for both operating and finance leases, ensuring strict adherence to ASC 842 standards.
  • Generate accurate journal entry reports in compliance with ASC 842.
  • Maintain accurate lease data within the software.
  • Prior experience reviewing complex lease agreements is a plus.

Lease Modification Management:

  • Apply ASC 842 guidance to assess and account for lease modifications, including changes in lease terms, payments, and scope.

Advanced Excel Proficiency:

  • Utilize advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, complex formulas (e.g., VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH), and data analysis techniques, to manage and analyze lease data.

Lease Accounting Software (Preferred):

  • Prior experience with lease accounting software is a plus.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of specialized experience with ASC 842 lease accounting, including lease modifications.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, specifically ASC 842.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and complex formulas.
  • Experience with lease accounting software is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA or working toward CPA certification.
  • Prior experience with restaurants or point-of-service retailers.
