We are seeking an Accountant on a contract basis to help support our customer's business needs. This role is hybrid (3 days on-site and 2 days remote/week) in Chicago, IL.



Responsibilities:

  • Execute monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes to meet critical deadlines
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations for key accounts and communicate adjustments to leadership
  • Perform variance analysis comparing current results to prior periods and document trends for management review
  • Ensure accurate revenue recognition and contract setup in compliance with ASC 606 standards
  • Execute Sarbanes-Oxley internal controls testing and support resolution of accounting and control issues
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing workpapers and responding to inquiries
  • Mentor and manage a staff accountant directly or through matrix reporting
  • Collaborate with finance team members, including business partnering and FP&A, to support growth initiatives


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field with at least 4 years of professional accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance requirements
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong skills in Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience managing financial processes and implementing accounting best practices
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage senior management
  • Detail-oriented with strategic and analytical thinking capabilities

Preferred:

  • CPA certification or progress toward certification
  • Public accounting experience with Big Four or mid-tier firms
  • Experience with financial reporting systems and SEC reporting processes
  • Background in commercial real estate or facilities management accounting
  • Experience mentoring junior team members
  • Familiarity with ASC 606 in service-based industries
  • Experience working in matrix organizational environments
