Job description

Our Customer is an American financial services mutual organization based in Milwaukee. The financial security company provides consultation on wealth and asset income protection, education planning, retirement planning, investment advisory services, financial planning trust and private client services, estate planning and business planning. Its products include life insurance, permanent life insurance, disability income, and long-term care insurance; annuities; investments; and investment advisory products and services.


Our customer is looking for an Junior Accountant – Reconciliation & Financial Operations on a contract basis to help support their ongoing business needs. This role is hybrid (3 days on-site and 2 days remote/week) in Milwaukee, WI.



Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily and monthly balancing of ledger accounts and financial systems with high transaction volumes
  • Maintain and support a strong financial control environment to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Perform financial accounting functions and support timely and accurate bank reconciliations
  • Review bank reconciliations and provide technical guidance on reconciliation processes
  • Resolve complex reconciliation issues and maintain business rules within bank reconciliation systems
  • Research and resolve accounting and system-related issues
  • Analyze bank details and general ledger data to identify control improvements and process efficiencies
  • Prepare financial and analytical information to support regulatory compliance and operational functions
  • Participate in cross-functional product and system implementation projects
  • Support team workload balancing and collaborate within a team environment
  • Communicate professionally with field offices and internal stakeholders regarding accounting and reconciliation matters


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and journal entries, including debits and credits
  • Formal accounting education required
  • Experience performing account reconciliations and financial balancing activities
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills in dynamic work environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including maintaining and manipulating worksheets accurately
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, including email and calendar management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with proper grammar and professional communication abilities
  • Ability to research and resolve accounting discrepancies and system issues
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
  • Technology-savvy with the ability to learn and navigate financial systems and tools efficiently
