Job description

Our Customer is an American financial services mutual organization based in Milwaukee. The financial security company provides consultation on wealth and asset income protection, education planning, retirement planning, investment advisory services, financial planning trust and private client services, estate planning and business planning. Its products include life insurance, permanent life insurance, disability income, and long-term care insurance; annuities; investments; and investment advisory products and services.


Our customer is looking for an Accountant on a contract basis to help support their ongoing business needs. This role is on-site in Milwaukee, WI.



Responsibilities:

  • Perform financial accounting functions and related control activities for assigned products and processes.
  • Ensure accounting activities conform to statutory accounting standards and organizational policies.
  • Validate the accuracy of accounting generated by multiple systems and manual accounting processes.
  • Research and resolve reconciliation issues, imbalances, and open suspense items.
  • Participate in monthly close processes and accounting cycle activities.
  • Process journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analyses.
  • Support large-scale corporate projects involving the creation of new accounts, reports, and accounting processes.
  • Assist with testing system changes and evaluating impacts on accounting processes and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate financial documentation and reporting records.
  • Support ongoing process improvements and operational accounting initiatives.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Formal accounting education and understanding of accounting principles.
  • Experience preparing journal entries, including credits and debits.
  • Strong understanding of reconciliations and accounting controls.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage tasks within dynamic environments.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including maintaining and manipulating worksheets accurately.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, including email and calendar management.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Ability to research and resolve accounting discrepancies and reconciliation issues.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Comfortable working with accounting systems, reports, and process documentation.
