Job description
Our Customer is an American financial services mutual organization based in Milwaukee. The financial security company provides consultation on wealth and asset income protection, education planning, retirement planning, investment advisory services, financial planning trust and private client services, estate planning and business planning. Its products include life insurance, permanent life insurance, disability income, and long-term care insurance; annuities; investments; and investment advisory products and services.
Our customer is looking for an Accountant on a contract basis to help support their ongoing business needs. This role is 100% remote.
The Accountant will perform transactional accounting for field offices, supporting day-to-day operations in accounts payable, commissions, and period close. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and professional communication with field offices. The position is expected to last at least one year, with training lasting approximately two months and potential opportunities for employee transition within the team. This role is 100% remote.
Responsibilities:
- Perform transactional accounting activities for assigned field offices.
- Process vouchers and enter journal entries in JD Edwards.
- Handle commission processing and monthly period-closing reconciliations.
- Support payroll functions and 1099 processing.
- Train new contractors on accounting processes.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with assigned field offices.
- Assist with office-specific accounting projects as needed.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of tasks in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
- Communicate frequently with the field offices, using professional tone and grammar.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles, including debits/credits and journal entries.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Proficiency with technology and software tools, including:
- Excel: Ability to maintain and manipulate worksheets accurately.
- Outlook: Email and calendaring.
- Professional communication skills with proper grammar for frequent interaction with field offices.
Preferred:
- Experience with JD Edwards or similar ERP/accounting systems.
- Prior experience in transactional accounting, accounts payable, commissions, and period close.
- Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
