Part-Time Accounting Manager

Irvine, CA

Flexible schedule- Hybrid work with 1-2 days onsite depending on season tax needs

20-25 hours/week, hours may increase to 30-40 during tax busy season

Role Overview

The Part-Time Tax Manager & Client Lead is a senior-level role designed for an experienced CPA who wants meaningful client interaction and technical work without full-time burnout. You’ll manage a small portfolio of clients, review returns, guide staff, and act as a primary contact for client questions and planning discussions.


This is ideal for someone who values flexibility, craftsmanship, and impact — not busywork.


Reports to: Managing Partner

Hours: (flexible)

Location: Hybrid – Irvine, CA or Remote (U.S. based) On-site to start

Compensation: $50 an hour + Monthly Production Bonus

Core Responsibilities

Tax Review & Planning

  • Review and/or prep complex individual, S-corp, partnership, and trust returns.
  • Oversee quarterly estimates, extensions, and planning projections.
  • Spot planning opportunities (e.g., PTE elections, S-Corp comp, depreciation, retirement plans).
  • Handle limited hands-on prep for high-complexity clients as needed.

Client Accounting

  • Manage month-end close and deliver P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow summaries.
  • Review external accounting works monthly/quarterly to avoid clean-ups annually.
  • Advise clients on CFO advisory services.
  • Collaborate with the tax team to keep entity-level books tax-ready.
  • Make recommendations in workflow and processes.

Client Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients.
  • Lead quarterly check-ins and year-end planning.
  • Translate tax insights into actionable advice.

Team Leadership & Workflow

  • Review and mentor work prepared by staff accountants or outsourced teams.
  • Manage tasks and deliverables.
  • Communicate updates asynchronously.

Qualifications

  • Active CPA license required.
  • 5+ years of tax experience, including review of business returns.
  • Strong understanding of multi-entity and high-net-worth individual taxation.
  • Experience with Lacerte & Quickbooks Online required.
  • Tech-savvy: Comfortable with AI & using various platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator.
  • Comfortable with asynchronous communication and flexible schedule.
