Job description

Our customer offers automobile, homeowners, and other personal lines of insurance to members across 23 states and the District of Columbia. We are looking for a contract Accounting Associate to help support our Customer's business needs. This role is remote in Arizona, Nevada, or California.



Responsibilities:

  • Process invoices, match invoices to purchase orders, assign coders, verify accuracy, and resolve exceptions.
  • Collaborate with buyers to validate purchase orders.
  • Process invoice-related corrections, accounting adjustments, check cancellations, and unclaimed property items.
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies in payments at all levels of complexity; follow up on delinquent transactions.
  • Prepare internal management reports as well as specialized reports.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for production problem resolution and system changes.
  • Provide customer support for escalated internal and external issues.
  • Process daily positive pay files from the bank.
  • Set up vendors in financial and claims systems.
  • Process payments via checks, ACH, and Zelle.
  • Manage 1099 processing and reporting.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing and providing the required records.
  • Communicate complex issues and discrepancies to management and recommend corrective actions.
  • Analyze and correct accounting discrepancies and data entry imbalances.
  • Cross-train in other areas of enterprise disbursements and provide backup support when needed.
  • Participate in testing for system patches and updates; assist in creating UAT scenarios.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Associate degree, training, or equivalent relevant experience. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • 5–7 years of related work experience.
  • Ability to extract and compile data from multiple sources and perform basic analyses.
  • Strong organizational skills to handle multiple priorities with attention to detail.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP accounting, protocols, and procedures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information clearly.
  • Ability to quickly learn business applications and troubleshoot technical issues in collaboration with IT.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Excellent customer service orientation and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective team player with flexibility to shift priorities as needed.
  • Knowledge of Coupa, Oracle Financial System, and Guidewire preferred.
