Job description

We are seeking an Accounting Coordinator on a contract basis to support their business needs. This role is on-site in Newport News, VA.


The ideal candidate will manage lease payables, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with lease agreements and company policies—all while delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.


Normal work hours are 7:30 am to 4 pm, but hours can be flexible as they work 8 hours a day.



Responsibilities:

  • Monitor shared inboxes, manage workflows, and distribute incoming mail
  • Process lease-related expenses, including utilities, repairs, insurance, and real estate taxes
  • Ensure all charges align with lease terms and internal policies
  • Communicate with landlords and internal teams to resolve discrepancies and gather required information
  • Maintain accurate financial records through data entry and basic calculations
  • Draft professional correspondence and maintain organized documentation
  • Utilize Excel and Microsoft Office tools to track, manage, and analyze data
  • Adapt to shifting priorities and support high-volume workloads as needed


Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3–5 years of experience in accounts payable or related accounting functions
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in statement reconciliation using Excel
  • High attention to detail with strong accuracy in data entry and financial processing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong follow-up practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel
  • Ability to work independently and quickly ramp up in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Basic understanding of accounts payable processes
  • Proven professionalism, reliability, and teamwork

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in real estate accounting
  • Familiarity with Oracle, Lucernex, or similar systems
  • Experience working in high-volume, fast-paced environments
