Our company is a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company innovating small molecule kinase inhibitor therapeutics to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).
Senior Accountant (Temporary)
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Senior Accountant (Temporary) to join its Finance & Accounting team. This is a remote position reporting to the Senior Accounting Manager.
This employee will play a key temporary role in both the day-to-day accounting operations and month-end close process at a fast-growing, clinical-stage pharmaceutical company.
The Senior Accountant (Temporary) is responsible for a broad range of senior accounting activities, including preparing account reconciliations and journal entries, and will have primary responsibility for the Company’s accounts payable function, including maintaining accurate vendor records and ensuring timely and accurate processing of vendor bills and payments.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting and accounts payable experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a remote, dynamic, fast-paced environment. This position will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, timely transaction processing, and compliance with Company policies and internal controls.
Core Responsibilities
Senior Accounting Responsibilities:
- Prepare, review and record journal entries in accordance with US GAAP and Company accounting policies
- Prepare and maintain account reconciliations and journal entries for assigned general ledger accounts, including:
- Cash
- Prepaids expenses
- Accounts payable
- Accrued expenses
- Deposits
- Other accounts, as needed
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities
- Maintain supporting schedules and documentation for assigned accounts and accounting activities
- Reconcile bank accounts weekly
- Assist with balance sheet and P&L account analysis and flux analysis, including identifying and explaining significant variances
- Prepare and provide supporting documentation for external financial statement audits and other accounting requests
- Assist with ad hoc projects, as needed
Accounts Payable Responsibilities:
- Monitor and manage the accounts payable mailbox daily and respond to internal and external inquiries in a timely and professional manner
- Process, review and code both purchase order and non-purchase order vendor bills accurately and timely with a strong focus on detail
- Maintain accurate and complete vendor records, including vendor setup, W-9 collection, and updates to vendor information in NetSuite
- Review vendor bills for appropriate coding, supporting documentation, purchase order requirements, and compliance with Company policies
- Review and process employee expense reports through Concur on a twice-weekly basis, ensuring timely and accurate processing
- Prepare weekly vendor payment runs and distribute vendor payment remittances through NetSuite
- Research and resolve vendor payment inquiries and discrepancies
- Assist with the preparation of annual 1099 filings
- Monitor the Finance mailbox and maintain the central contract filing system
- Maintain compliance with internal controls and Company policies
Qualifications/Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred
- 5+ years of general accounting and accounts payable experience
- Experience working in a life sciences or biotechnology environment preferred
- Public company experience a plus
- Knowledge of US GAAP
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP preferred)
- Experience with accounting/ERP and expense reporting systems (e.g., NetSuite, Concur)
- Positive and collaborative attitude
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working in a remote work environment strongly preferred
