Job description

Our customer is a large United States insurance company that is backed by more than 100 years of experience and provides insurance products and services for businesses and professionals in the United States., Canada and Europe. Headquartered in Chicago, IL, they have more than 20 US locations.


We are seeking a contract Agile Scrum Master to support our Customer's business needs. This role is hybrid (4 days remote and 1 day onsite) in Chicago, IL.


This role will lead and support multiple Agile Scrum Teams delivering complex initiatives, working with a mix of internal and external (onshore and offshore) resources. This role is responsible for facilitating Scrum ceremonies, coaching team members on Agile principles, ensuring delivery of quality IT and business solutions, and fostering an environment of continuous improvement. The Scrum Master will act as a servant-leader, trusted advisor, and Agile subject matter expert, driving team maturity and delivery efficiency while collaborating closely with Product Owners and key stakeholders.



Responsibilities:

  • Serve, lead, and coach multiple Agile Scrum Teams on complex initiatives, ensuring adherence to Agile values and Scrum practices.
  • Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies, including daily standups, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and cross-team coordination.
  • Partner with Product Owners to manage backlogs, prioritize work, and maintain relevant delivery metrics.
  • Identify, resolve, and escalate impediments to optimize team delivery flow.
  • Proactively monitor risks, issues, and delivery dependencies; ensure problems are resolved and do not recur.
  • Promote continuous improvement, encouraging Agile maturity and consistent velocity across teams.
  • Guide team members in Agile best practices, mentoring less experienced Scrum Masters as needed.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships within Agile teams, Product Owners, and stakeholders.
  • Foster a safe, transparent, and collaborative team environment, encouraging open communication and conflict resolution.
  • Champion Agile practices within the organization, contributing feedback and improvements to Agile Centers of Excellence or Communities of Practice.
  • Ensure delivery quality, transparency of progress, and adherence to timelines.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • Scrum Master Certification (CSM).
  • Additional Agile or project management certifications.
  • 4+ years of related work experience in Agile delivery within enterprise IT environments.
  • Proven experience as a Scrum Master using Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Strong organizational skills and proficiency with Agile management tools (e.g., Jira).
  • Experience applying application development best practices (e.g., automation, CI/CD pipelines).
  • Prior project management experience.
  • Strong servant-leadership mindset with coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Demonstrated success driving software delivery using Agile principles.
  • Excellent facilitation, interpersonal, and communication skills; ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
