Job description
Our Customer is a Silicon Valley-based company that is engaged in researching emerging technologies.
We are seeking a contract AI Product Designer to develop future, end-to-end UX concept development for emerging AI systems.
You're a systems thinker and hands-on inventor who moves fluidly between near-term design craft and long-horizon strategy. You'll report to the Sr. Design Director and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team that includes Creative Technologists, Researchers, and AI.
This role is based in NYC.
Responsibilities:
- Lead UX concept development for generative design system investigations, including adaptive UI surfaces, tokenized design patterns, and machine-readable component architectures for AI composition
- Define and prototype Agentic OS interaction models, including intent-based navigation, multi-agent task orchestration, and dynamic layout systems
- Translate complex AI system behaviors into clear, human-centered interaction flows, scenarios, and design frameworks
- Develop strategy documents, user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity concept visions for design peers and executive leadership
- Contribute to Jobs-to-Be-Done analysis, opportunity mapping, and product roadmap decisions
Skills and Qualifications:
- 10+ years of UX, Interaction Design, or HCI experience
- Minimum of 3 years designing emerging or AI-powered product experiences
- Demonstrated experience designing AI-native or agentic interfaces, including proactive systems and multi-step task flows
- Fluency with generative UI principles and adaptive interface design
- Hands-on experience with design system tokenization and component architecture
- Understanding of LLM and agentic system design patterns, including orchestration layers, delegation models, agent handoff, and user override mechanisms
- Experience designing multimodal interactions across voice, gesture, visual, and ambient inputs
- Ability to prototype or storyboard intent-based navigation models
- Strong knowledge of OS-level or system UX design, including navigation models, information architecture, and cross-surface continuity
- Experience contributing to scaled design systems, including interaction specs and component logic
- Proficiency in Figma, including component architecture, auto-layout, and variable or token workflows
- Ability to create compelling concept visions from early-stage sketches to executive-ready artifacts
- Systems-thinking mindset with the ability to balance strategic vision and detailed execution
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and framing open-ended design challenges
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex AI concepts into clear narratives
- Collaborative mindset suited for fast-moving, multidisciplinary environments
- Intellectual curiosity about the impact of AI on human behavior and interaction models
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within experimental design studios or innovation teams
- Exposure to AI-assisted design workflows and generative prototyping tools
