Job description
The Mom Project is excited to partner with our client, a leading baby registry, e-commerce, and content platform for growing families, who is seeking a temporary Associate Buyer to join their e-commerce merchandising team!
As an Associate Buyer (Temporary), you will support the buying strategy, manage the assortment and day-to-day merchandising execution for the Toys, Activities & Books departments. You will develop plans that support the goals of the broader business, identify opportunities to grow sales and profitability, and improve efficiency across the customer and operational experience.
You will manage vendor partnerships, evaluate and curate a compelling assortment, and lead cross-functional communication with Inventory Management, Operations and Site Merchandising, Supporting conversations with, Marketing, Data, Customer Service, and Operations. The ideal candidate is a fast learner, analytical thinker, understands how to translate consumer and market insights into assortment decisions, and thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Who You Are
- You have 5–6 years of experience in retail buying, merchandising, or e-commerce.
- You have strong Excel and analytical skills, with the ability to identify meaningful themes and opportunities in quantitative data.
- You are passionate about consumer products, trends, innovation, and merchandising.
- You are comfortable using AI tools, eager to learn new applications quickly, and able to apply them thoughtfully to improve merchandising decisions, efficiency, and execution.
- You have experience managing third-party and vendor relationships in support of internal and external financial goals.
- You are comfortable owning a large and varied assortment and can identify opportunities to improve selection, presentation, availability, and profitability.
- You are flexible and adaptable, able to manage changing priorities and improve processes in a fast-moving environment.
- You are a clear communicator who collaborates effectively across functions and levels of the organization.
- You bring a practical, scrappy, and solutions-oriented approach and are comfortable wearing multiple hats.
How You Will Make an Impact
- Own the Toys, Activities & Books department and/or assigned categories, including associated sales, margin, and profit goals.
- Use AI tools to analyze data, identify trends, streamline workflows, and accelerate high-quality merchandising decisions and execution.
- Build and execute a strategic vision for the department, including assortment planning, seasonal and promotional strategies, and merchandising priorities.
- Curate an engaging, differentiated, and customer-relevant assortment across toys, activities, and books.
- Manage and strengthen relationships with vendors and branded partners, ensuring shared business objectives are clearly defined and delivered.
- Partner with Inventory Management and Operations to improve in-stock performance, inventory productivity, forecasting inputs, and overall operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with Site Merchandising, Marketing, Content, Product, and Data teams on on-site presentation, storytelling, launches, campaigns, and customer insights.
- Lead initiatives to maximize profitability across the P&L in partnership with Planning and Operations.
- Monitor business performance and use data, vendor insights, customer behavior, and market research to identify growth opportunities and inform decisions.
- Stay current on emerging trends in toys, children’s activities, books, gifting, and family purchasing behavior to keep our client's assortment relevant and differentiated
