Job description
Our Customer is an American worldwise clothing and accessories retailer, founded in 1969. Over the last 50 years, the company has grown from a single store to a global fashion business with seven brands. Their clothes are availabile in 90 countries worldwide through over 3,100 company-operated stores, almost 400 franchise stores, and e-commerce sites and is still growing.
Our Customer is seeking an Associate Designer on a contract basis to support their business needs. This role is on-site in NYC.
Responsibilities:
- Research global markets to identify seasonal trends, silhouettes, fabrics, techniques, product categories, and competitive inspiration
- Develop seasonal product concepts and sketches
- Present design concepts to leadership and cross-functional teams
- Partner with Merchandising, Production, Technical Design, Sourcing, Visual Merchandising, and Marketing throughout the product development process
- Collaborate with Production to develop tech packs and communicate product design intent
- Support fit sessions and revise sketches and design packages based on feedback
- Create presentation boards and manage design process documentation
- Track product development timelines and ensure key milestones are met
- Manage multiple seasonal product development cycles simultaneously
- Translate fashion trends into products aligned with brand and customer needs
- Apply knowledge of silhouette, fit, fabrication, garment construction, color, sewing techniques, and trims throughout the design process
- Identify inconsistencies in product data and design results and recommend corrections
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience researching fashion trends and competitive markets
- Experience developing product concepts, sketches, and seasonal collections
- Strong understanding of garment construction, silhouette, fit, fabrication, color, trims, and sewing techniques
- Strong design presentation and visual communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Strong aesthetic sense and understanding of fashion trends
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
