Job description
Our Customer is a consumer financial services company headquartered in Connecticut. The company offers consumer financing products, including credit, promotional financing and loyalty programs, installment lending to industries, and FDIC-insured consumer savings products through the consumer bank, its wholly owned online bank subsidiary.
We are seeking an AVP, Database & Application SME on a contract basis to support our customer’s ongoing business needs. This role is 100% remote.
This role partners closely with Technology, Operations, and external vendors to troubleshoot complex production issues, optimize system performance, and ensure data integrity across the end-to-end account lifecycle—from system of record through segmentation and work execution, including downstream dialer integrations.
The position requires deep technical expertise, strong cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to drive stability and efficiency across critical collections infrastructure.
Work Shift: 1 day per week, possibly more
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the subject matter expert for database structure and data lineage, including table and column locations and key account data sources
- Provide advanced SQL support including query structure, filters, account selection logic, and troubleshooting
- Maintain and troubleshoot stored procedures, partitions, and related database objects, and recommend enhancements as needed
- Provide deep functional and technical expertise in commercial collections strategy execution within a collections platform
- Support backend archiving and purging processes in alignment with records retention requirements
- Serve as the subject matter expert for worklists, segmentation logic, tags, and segment flow within the collections system
- Train users and stakeholders on backend functionality, workflows, controls, and troubleshooting
- Support User Defined Pages including configuration, workflow impacts, intended use, and issue resolution
- Advise on account relationship modeling including linking, delinking, ownership structure, and duplicate record resolution
- Support decisioning and workflow timing elements including next contact date logic and rules engine integration
- Provide expertise in payment update processing, suspended account handling, future transactions, and soft delete impacts
- Support batch scheduling and automation processes including cron jobs and investigate latency or performance issues
- Explain and troubleshoot integration patterns including REST APIs, stored procedures, and microservices
- Support end-to-end collections data flow from system of record through the collections platform and downstream channels such as dialers
- Diagnose data breaks, timing issues, and mismatches across integrated systems
- Apply prior integration experience to identify risks, pitfalls, and best practices during system changes or enhancements
Skills and Qualifications:
- Advanced SQL skills with strong database troubleshooting experience
- Experience with stored procedures, partitioning, and database performance tuning
- Proven expertise supporting collections platforms and complex account lifecycle processing
- Strong understanding of collections segmentation logic and downstream execution channels
- Strong knowledge of end-to-end collections data flows from source systems to downstream systems and interfaces
- Experience supporting REST API integrations, microservices, and backend processing
- Ability to translate technical concepts into actionable guidance for operations and leadership
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with batch scheduling and automation tools such as cron jobs
- Strong communication and training skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting commercial collections strategies and platforms
- Experience with rules engines and decisioning logic
- Experience working on large-scale integrations and data flow optimization
