Software Engineer

Our customer is a global provider of information-based analytics and decision tools for professional and business customers. They help researchers make new discoveries, doctors and nurses improve the lives of patients, and lawyers develop winning strategies. They prevent online fraud and money laundering and help insurance companies evaluate and predict risk. Their events combine in-person and digital experiences to help customers learn about markets, source products, and complete transactions. In short, they enable customers to make better decisions, get better results and be more productive.

We are seeking a Software Engineer on a contract basis to support our Customer's business needs.

What you’ll do:

• Work closely with the product team and team members to finalize requirements.
• Implement requirements while following SDLC best practices and assist others through code and design reviews.
• Operate in an Agile development environment while collaborating with key stakeholders.
• Resolve technical issues as necessary, including security vulnerabilities.
• Keep abreast of new technology developments.
• Meet sprint commitment, help improve team velocity, reduce UAT and post-prod defects
• Scaling up from individual contributor and designer to architecting solutions for the team
• Other duties as assigned

Must Haves:

• 4-6 years of development experience using Java/J2EE, Spring Frameworks, Spring Boot, and Restful Webservices.
• Minimum 4 years of industry experience working on Java projects, not including training and education projects
• Minimum 3 years of experience working in Agile development methodology
• 2 years of knowledge in Java, Javascript, XML, HTML, ClearCase, JSP, Rational Rose, Struts, and Websphere
• Preference to candidates with any certifications in areas of (Scrum, Agile, Java, Angular, Cloud)
• Experience working with NoSQL DB like ElasticSearch, MongoDB/Marklogic, is preferred.
• Experience working with large data stores with tools including or similar to Marklogic, MariaDB, and MongoDB.
• Hands-on experience in designing and developing applications using Java platforms.
• Experience working with Java 8 and above, Spring framework
• Experience working with relational and non-relational databases
• Experience working with Agile teams
• Experience working with ElasticSearch is a huge plus.
• Experience in using Agile DevOps tools Gradle, GIT, Bamboo, Jenkins, IntelliJ, and Nexus.
• AWS or any other cloud development experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of test-driven development.
• Ability to work with an Agile mindset and avoid an over-the-wall approach.
• Ability to work well with internal and external technology resources.
• Must have good oral and written communication skills.
• Good handle on concepts of cyber security, cloud technologies, and Agile methodology skills
• Experience working with more than 1 large project to get a good view of architecture concepts and pitfalls.
• Strong analytical ability.

Education:

• BS Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience required.

Hours & Location:

• M-F, 40 hours/week. The expectation is to be on-site at our Customer’s Chicago, IL location.
