Job Description:

The part-time (25-30 hours per week) Bookkeeper/Accountant is a dynamic, highly organized, and detail-oriented self-starter who owns the accounting function of a growing professional services organization. The position is responsible for daily bookkeeping, accounts payable and receivables, payroll, month end close, financial reporting, and other related duties as assigned. To be successful in this role, you will need to be flexible, forward-thinking, collaborative, and able to excel in an entrepreneurial, fast-growing organization.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Accounting (preferred)
  • Five years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong knowledge of QuickBooks
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Verbal Communication: speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, listens and gets clarification, receptive to feedback
  • Written Communication: writes clearly and informatively, edits work for spelling and grammar, varies writing style to meet needs, presents numerical data effectively, able to read and interpret written information
  • Strong organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills
  • Ability to prioritize workflow
  • Ability to thrive in a high-volume, high-pressure environment
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of various teams and committees
  • Tact and good judgment in confidential situations, and proven experience interacting with senior management

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare general journal entries, monthly balance sheet reconciliation, and bank reconciliation
  • Perform accounts payable functions, including but not limited to verifying invoices, expense reports, check requests, entering data into accounts payable system, and processing weekly check runs
  • Perform accounts receivable functions, including but not limited to applying payments to appropriate accounts, monthly invoicing, reconciling customer accounts, and fielding customer inquiries
  • Prepare and analyze monthly journals in coordination with firm president / CFO, research discrepancies and make necessary adjustments
  • Assists with annual external audits and tax statements
  • Respond to client billing requests and inquiries
  • Deposit checks and process credit card payments; posting cash receipts
  • Prepare account analyses and reconciliation
  • Coordinate implementation of accounting systems and accounting control procedures
  • Process payroll including knowledge of tax, benefit, and 401k deductions
  • Process employee expense reports
  • Support record keeping and prepare initial quarterly reports and required filings for FINRA reporting.
  • File monthly and quarterly taxes with appropriate city, state, and federal agencies
  • Ad hoc tasks as needed in support of senior leadership team
