Job description

The Mom Project is excited to support Etsy with their search for a Senior Category Manager to join their team on a contract basis.

At Etsy, we’re building a future that reimagines commerce in ways that are more personal, meaningful, and community-driven. As the Senior Category Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and growing a category that inspires millions of buyers and supports the success of small businesses around the world. Join our growing team within the Marketing Org, where your contributions will make a big impact and positive difference in real people's lives.

About the Position

As a Senior Category Manager, you’ll lead the strategy, planning, and execution for a high-potential product category on Etsy. This role is both strategic and hands-on—equal parts market analyst, merchant, and cross-functional collaborator. You’ll develop a deep understanding of what makes your category thrive and partner across Etsy to build programs that drive growth, deepen buyer engagement, and reinforce Etsy’s unique value proposition.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a scorecard to assess and maintain the overall health of your category, leveraging it to drive insight and action.
  • Build robust reporting frameworks to surface trends, flag opportunities, and measure impact across key programs.
  • Conduct and continuously refine target customer and competitive analyses to inform strategy.
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities to accelerate GMS growth and increase category share.
  • Craft and champion end-to-end strategies based on category-specific opportunities and work cross-functionally with partners across Business Development, Marketing, Product, Strategy & Operations, Research, and Legal to bring them to life.
  • Develop a merchandising strategy that brings your category to life across Etsy’s Merchandising toolkit and lead a small team in executing key merchandising efforts across: landings, promotions, programming, algotorial placements, and Etsy Picks.
  • Collaborate with Product to identify and expand “human qualitative review” initiatives that unlock inventory attributes and support category growth.
  • Measure and evaluate the impact of your initiatives; experiment with incremental tactics, refine approaches based on learnings, and continuously shift focus to maximize scaled impact across Etsy’s marketing and on-site channels.
  • Partner with the Brand Strategy team to define clear, compelling positioning for your category that differentiates Etsy and informs annual buyer programming—across flagship campaigns to long-tail evergreen moments.

About You

  • 6+ years of relevant experience in category management, merchandising, brand strategy, or marketplace growth, ideally in a consumer-facing, multi-sided platform or ecommerce environment.
  • Deep curiosity and intuition about customers—you’re comfortable turning insights into action.
  • Strong analytical acumen; you can translate complex data into business narratives and decisions.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans across multiple stakeholders and functions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence across levels and disciplines.
  • Experience leading and mentoring teams toward clear goals.
  • A love for creative commerce and a belief in Etsy’s mission to keep commerce human.
