Job description

Job Summary:

The Payroll Specialist will oversee the organization's payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  2. Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  3. Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  4. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  5. Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  6. Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  1. Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
  2. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  4. Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  5. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  6. Proficient with payroll software.

Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field required.
  2. Three to five years of related experience required.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  2. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
