Job description

Our client invests in Seed stage, series A, and Series B funding of startups in the technology sector, with particular focus on AgriTech. They are looking for an experienced part-time Chief Financial Officer or similar level, with experience in the private equity or venture capital space, specifically with supporting the fund’s fundraising and subsequent compliance and reporting.

This fractional role is 100% remote and can sit in anytime zone. This role with be 20 hours a week, those hours can be flexible.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience raising and establishing private equity funds including the development of all assets (presentations, financial projections, and performance reports)
  • Experience communicating with investors
  • Understanding of Regulatory Compliance, particularly within the U.S., as majority of raises will be within the U.S.
  • Experience with feeder funds would be a big plus!


ROLE OVERVIEW

Fund Management and Reporting

  • Fundraising Support: Assists with fund structuring, including designing tax-efficient fund vehicles and working with legal teams to finalize fund documents.
  • Investor Reporting: Prepares quarterly and annual reports, ensuring compliance with Limited Partner (LP) agreements.
  • Performance Metrics: Tracks and reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) like IRR (Internal Rate of Return) and MOIC (Multiple on Invested Capital).

Financial Planning and Analysis

  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Oversees the firm’s budgeting process, forecasts cash flow needs, and manages expense allocations.
  • Capital Deployment: Monitors fund capital commitments, distributions, and unfunded liabilities to maintain optimal liquidity.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensures adherence to financial regulations (e.g., SEC in the U.S., AIFMD in the EU), tax laws, and reporting standards (e.g., GAAP or IFRS).
  • Risk Mitigation: Establishes controls to manage financial, operational, and investment risks.

Tax Strategy and Structuring

  • Tax Optimization: Works with tax advisors to design tax-efficient structures for the fund and its portfolio companies.
  • Jurisdiction Management: Manages complexities of cross-border investments, ensuring compliance with international tax treaties.

Portfolio Oversight

  • Valuation Oversight: Reviews and approves fair market valuations of portfolio companies, often involving third-party auditors.
  • Exit Strategy Support: Collaborates with deal teams on divestitures, ensuring financial accuracy and optimizing returns.

Team Leadership

  • Finance Department Management: Leads the accounting, treasury, and financial operations teams.
  • Training and Development: Mentors finance staff to ensure alignment with the firm’s objectives.

Strategic Partner

  • Advisory Role: Acts as a strategic advisor to the CEO, partners, and investment teams on financial and operational matters.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Interacts with LPs, General Partners (GPs), auditors, and regulatory bodies.
