Job description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

As a true business partner to the President and CEO, the Chief Financial Officer will play a key role in the short- and long-term planning and assess organizational performance against both the annual budget and company’s long-term strategy. The CFO will develop tools and systems to provide timely critical financial and operational information to the CEO and Board of Directors and make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operational execution. The CFO will engage the Board around issues, trends and changes in the operating models and operational delivery. The CFO will assist in establishing yearly objectives and meeting agendas. The CFO will also oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with the organization’s strategic plan.

The CFO is responsible for leading the finance activities including general accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls, leading a team of 1 to 2 individuals. This position requires a detail-oriented professional with excellent analytical, planning and implementation skills. Needs to be an independent, self-starter who is a good communicator. This position needs to be flexible and agile and react to quick turnarounds of CEO requests. The below list details more of the expected responsibilities but is not entirely conclusive. The role needs to be able to adjust to change as we grow.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Management

  1. Oversee the operations of accounting and finance, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives. Currently there is one direct report.

Transactions

  1. Ensure that accounts payable is processed and purchase orders are in line
  2. Manage all vendor transactions and communications
  3. Attend to mail
  4. Deposit checks
  5. Communicate with and manage vendors
  6. Ensure that bank and balance sheet account reconciliations are completed
  7. Maintain the chart of accounts
  8. Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
  9. Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
  10. Maintain weekly cash flow reporting
  11. Analyze and report on utilization and project profitability
  12. Ensure proper revenue recognition by project
  13. Manage cash posting and forecast reporting
  14. Compile all invoice requests
  15. Prepare and file annual 1099s
  16. Prepare weekly accounts receivable

Reporting

  1. Issue timely and complete financial statements
  2. Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
  3. Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts
  4. Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
  5. Provide financial analyses as needed
  6. Weekly opportunities, past due AR and projected billings reporting

Compliance

  1. Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors
  2. Prepare materials for Audit & Finance Committee
  3. Ensure adequate insurance protection is in place for the organization
  4. Responsible for cybersecurity and Enterprise Risk Management process

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Master’s degree in accounting or finance
  2. 6-10+ years of progressively responsible experience for a small services or consulting organization or division of large corporation
  3. Certified Public Accountant is desired, but not necessary.
  4. Outgoing, positive professional with the ability to work well in a collaborative, team-oriented and fast-paced environment
  5. Strong organizational, written & verbal communication skills
  6. Inquisitive and interested in keeping abreast of current events on the local, national, and global scene
  7. Able to maintain corporate confidentiality
  8. Proficient in MS Office and have knowledge of NetForum CRM or other membership database software
  9. Experience with Business Central 365 or other similar accounting software
  10. Valid ID required
