Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Chief Operating Officer (COO)
JETPUBS Inc - Aerospace & Defense company
- Hudson, WI
Job description
JETPUBS is hiring its first Chief Operating Officer to help architect the next chapter of the business.
This is a true build-and-scale role, not a maintenance job. You’ll partner directly with the CEO to translate strategy into execution, design operating systems that scale, and lead leaders across the company.
You do not need aviation experience. You do need deep experience running service-based organizations, a love of LEAN execution, and fluency in operating frameworks like Gazelles or EOS (advanced).
If you enjoy solving complex problems, leading people through change, and creating clarity where there currently isn’t enough – this role will feel like home.
What You’ll Be Doing
Operational Leadership & Scale
- Serve as the CEO’s execution partner – turning vision into operating reality.
- Own day-to-day operations across business units while keeping the company lean.
- Design scalable structures that support growth without bloating headcount or cost.
- Identify friction points, inefficiencies, and risks – then fix them.
Operating System Ownership
- Implement, mature, and enforce Gazelles or EOS-style operating rhythms.
- Drive quarterly priorities, scorecards, accountability, and execution discipline.
- Ensure leadership meetings are productive, data-driven, and action-oriented.
- Build systems that reduce heroics and increase predictability.
Financial & Capacity Discipline
- Partner closely with Finance to own forecasting, margin visibility, utilization, and capacity planning.
- Ensure P&L performance is understood, managed, and improved across teams.
- Balance growth with profitability – without sacrificing service quality.
People & Leadership
- Lead and develop 3 – 5 direct reports across core operational functions.
- Coach leaders to think in systems, not silos.
- Clarify roles, decision rights, and accountability across the org.
- Build a culture of ownership, calm execution, and continuous improvement.
Process & LEAN Execution
- Champion LEAN thinking across workflows, service delivery, and internal operations.
- Reduce rework, ambiguity, and unnecessary complexity.
- Create visibility through dashboards, KPIs, and simple reporting tools.
- Ensure the company operates with discipline – but not bureaucracy.
Who You Are
- A problem-solver at heart – you genuinely enjoy untangling complexity.
- A calm, confident leader who can handle people, tension, and change.
- Systems-minded, structured, and execution-focused.
- Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information.
- Trusted by teams because you’re fair, clear, and consistent.
- Energized by growth-stage companies – not corporate red tape.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- 10+ years of operational leadership experience in a service-based organization.
- Proven success scaling teams, processes, and operating systems.
- Strong working knowledge of Gazelles, EOS, or equivalent execution frameworks.
- Experience owning or deeply managing P&L, forecasting, and capacity.
- Track record of leading managers and building leadership bench strength.
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or equivalent experience a plus.
- Bonus: Experience with or working knowledge of Gallup Q12 engagement methodology and applying it to team leadership and performance.
