We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer on a contract basis to help support our Customer's business needs. This role is on-site in San Francisco, CA.


Fingerprinting and NDA required



Responsibilities:

  • Invent, prototype, and test mechanical systems, structures, and mechanisms, including CAD modeling and documentation
  • Rapidly evaluate the technical viability of ideas within business constraints
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, software, and systems engineers, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs
  • Produce prototypes, simulations, and proof-of-concept builds to validate concepts and influence major architectural decisions
  • Apply FEA tools and analysis to inform design decisions
  • Drive projects from concept to production in fast-paced, high-ownership environments


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience, preferably in robotics, aerospace, automotive, or other high-volume and safety-critical environments
  • Proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks, NX, or equivalent, and familiarity with GD&T drawing standards
  • Strong understanding of materials, fasteners, tolerancing, and thermal/structural considerations
  • Proficiency with FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, SolidWorks Simulation) with demonstrated application to real-world designs
  • Experience taking products from concept to production
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills


Preferred:

  • Experience shipping hardware at scale in safety-critical applications
  • Personal portfolio of side projects that demonstrate engineering passion
  • Appreciation for craftsmanship and elegant design
  • Ability to thrive in high-integrity, high-ownership, and high-impact environments
