Job description

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced grant writer to work on a contract basis to support our grant writing and fundraising efforts. We are specifically looking for someone with at least 3 years of experience applying for and managing federal funding programs. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate success in being awarded grants between $100,000 and $1,000,000.

The grant writer will help us identify and apply for opportunities that can connect our company to funding available for frontline and essential workers and support program services focused on job quality, the future of work, apprenticeship support, and workforce development. We may seek program, capacity building, general operating and direct assistance grants. Funding opportunities could be governmental, regional or from private foundations; therefore, fluency in the varying requirements of the different funding types and sources is essential.

Candidates will be asked to share at least two examples of grant writing for grants that were awarded. Initially, this will be a 6-month contract position with the opportunity to expand to full time, permanent status once evidence of successful fundraising is determined.

Work is 100% remote and can be completed on a flexible schedule as long as deadlines are met. We expect a 15-24 hour/week commitment depending on specific grant deadlines. At least 6-8 hours of availability during business hours per week is required.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Research, write and manage the full cycle of proposal development and grant submission
  • Communicate requirements of varying grants across the organization
  • Collaborate with WLP program and Salesforce teams to ensure required data and impact measure can be and is tracked
  • Coordinate with WLP communication, impact and finance teams to ensure currency and accuracy of grant attachments and embedded data
  • Ensure we are compliant with grant requirements, including federal government and IRS obligations
  • Manage grant reporting; ensure all stakeholders are aware of deadlines and requirements
  • Engage senior leadership (CEO, COO) in grant drafts where appropriate; balance independent writing with need to ensure the organization mission, work and impact are authentically communicated in all grant proposals
  • Manage and respond to requests for special reports, collateral or materials that support fundraising efforts

Competencies and Experience

  • At least 5 years of grant writing and management experience including 3 years of experience seeking and securing federal grant funding
  • Demonstrated success at securing grants between $100,000-$1,000,000
  • Experience writing proposals for workforce development, job quality, underserved communities, direct support, and basic needs assistance strongly preferred
  • High follow through, attention to detail and ability to manage/meet deadlines
