Job description

Director of Finance (with growth opportunity to CFO)

100% Remote

30 hours/week

Temp to Perm

Our mission is to realize humanity’s sustainable future by improving access to food and fuel for all. We do this by producing green ammonia -- the building block for all synthetic fertilizers -- from renewable electricity, water, and air. Today, we’re building a distributed network of modular green ammonia systems across the world.

We produce reliable, carbon-free ammonia for our partners at a fraction of the current market price. We offer fertilizer on tap, on farm, at half the price. Our first systems are in Kenya, Spain, and the US. In the future, our platform will improve access to locally produced renewable energy and alternative fuels in communities around the world.

Job Description

We are hiring a Director of Finance to join our team.

The right candidate is a seasoned and independent financial professional with experience in and a bias towards building a start-up.

You will report directly to our CEO, and will be responsible for the below:

Startup Agility and Process Development: Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growing startup environment by building and refining financial processes independently, adapting to changing priorities, and effectively managing challenges as they arise.

Financial Reporting: Independently create standard U.S. GAAP financial statements with accompanying standard comments.

Team Leadership: Oversee Accounts Payable clerk and provide guidance to ensure efficient workflow and accuracy.

Tax Compliance: Manage U.S. and international tax filings, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, and lead efforts to secure reimbursement on paid international VAT as part of ongoing projects.

Financial Preparation: Prepare quarterly financial statements, providing insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making.

Revenue Recognition: Develop and implement an Accounts Receivable process and interface to accurately recognize revenue.

System Enhancement: Professionalize and optimize the startup's accounting systems, transitioning from QuickBooks to a more sophisticated ERP based on company needs.

Audit Experience: Conduct and manage audits, particularly in startup environments, to ensure financial integrity and transparency.

Industry Expertise: Experience in renewable energy and related financial topics, such as tax credits and long-term power purchase agreements, is a plus.

This is approximately 30 hours per week, with the likelihood of expanding hours to 40.

There is also upward mobility, as we anticipate the right candidate will grow into CFO.

All applicants applying for U.S. job openings must be legally authorized to work in the United States and are required to have U.S. residency at the time of application.
