Job description
Our Customer is an American worldwise clothing and accessories retailer, founded in 1969. Over the last 50 years, the company has grown from a single store to a global fashion business with seven brands. Their clothes are availabile in 90 countries worldwide through over 3,100 company-operated stores, almost 400 franchise stores, and e-commerce sites and is still growing.
We are seeking a Copywriter on a contract basis to write advertising copy to promote the sale of goods and services by presenting information in an appealing, informative, concise, and easy-to-understand manner, by performing the following duties. This role is on-site in San Francisco, CA (Waterfront/Market St).
Responsibilities:
- Communicate with internal and external customers for the best possible product presentation.
- Read/analyze technical information for each new product and any existing products, for presentation in the catalog and Internet.
- Observe the product in use, examine it, and use it when possible, to gain understanding.
- Attend all meetings related to catalog and Internet production, taking good notes on product and process. Write for all products on assigned pages for each catalog and for the Internet.
- Adjust all products and other copy to meet the needs of customers, marketing, and management.
- Working knowledge of computers and the ability to learn new programs.
- Track the progress of assigned pages throughout the catalog process and track the progress of products on the Internet.
- Organize workload for efficient time management.
- Meet multiple scheduled deadlines on time.
- Write other types of documents such as news releases, letters of response, personal interviews, items for other departments, instruction manuals, etc.
- Read and maintain a library of current reference materials.
- Review the copy using the checklist and format the copy according to the department style guide.
- Check questionable details.
- Maintain accurate information in product files.
- Proofread and edit as necessary.
- Assist the team leader and other copywriters as needed.
- Perform various clerical duties as needed.
- Consider laws governing copies, such as registered and trademarked symbols, country of origin, and material construction.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a BA in English, Journalism, Advertising, Marketing, or a related field of study
- Writing experience in advertising or a related field preferred
- Experience working on the internet is preferred
- Minimum of basic knowledge of Mac and/or PC computers
- Ability to use desktop publishing programs (preferably QuarkXPress)
- Knowledge of MS Word and Excel (prefer FileMaker Pro as well)
- Minimum of basic Internet/e-commerce knowledge
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret all forms of information
- Ability to write for a variety of media and audiences
- Ability to conform writing to the prescribed style format
- Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills
- Ability to accept and learn from constructive criticism
- Must be well organized
- Must be detail-oriented
- Must be team-oriented but able to work independently on occasion
- Must demonstrate tact and diplomacy
- Ability to prioritize tasks
- Ability to multitask
