Job description
Our Customer was founded in 1982 in an effort to create a solid accounting firm headed by native professionals. They later branched out to other services, which is now a multinational professional services network with offices in over 150 countries and territories around the world. With more than 100,000 professionals, they provide audit and assurance, tax, consulting, and risk and financial advisory services to a broad cross-section of the largest corporations and governmental agencies.
We are seeking a Data Engineer on a contract basis to help support our Customer’s business needs. This role is hybrid (4 days onsite and 1 day remote/week) in NYC.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain KDB+ databases and Q codebases with a focus on performance and scalability.
- Collaborate with client development teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Implement, test, and release KDB+/Q applications into production environments.
- Develop scripts and automation workflows using Ansible and Shell scripting.
- Provide operational support for deployed KDB+/Q solutions, ensuring stability and availability.
- Contribute to system architecture discussions and optimizations.
- Monitor and troubleshoot database performance issues to ensure ultra-low-latency data processing.
- KDB+/Q Development: 65% (core engineering, implementation, testing, production releases)
- Operational Support: 25% (deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, automation)
- Architecture Knowledge: 10% (system design and optimization contributions)
Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant work experience
- Strong coding skills in Q for KDB+ development.
- Hands-on experience building and supporting KDB+ applications in production environments.
- Proficiency in automation tools such as Ansible and scripting languages such as Shell scripting.
- Experience in low-latency, high-performance environments (e.g., quantitative trading, financial services).
- Familiarity with time series data modeling and performance optimization.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred:
- Prior experience with boutique KDB/Q consultancies such as First Derivative or AquaQ / Data Intellect.
- Exposure to large-scale trading or financial data environments.
