Job description
Our Customer is a Silicon Valley- based company that is engaged in researching emerging technologies.
We are seeking a contract Data Engineer to support our Customer's business needs. This role is on-site in Mountain View, CA.
Responsibilities:
- Implement, maintain, and evolve big data platforms and infrastructure
- Design, implement, and maintain backend REST API services and ETL processes for predictive modeling, machine learning, personalization, recommendation, and business intelligence systems
- Conduct research and analysis to inform optimal architecture and design decisions
- Write production-level code, conduct code reviews, create unit tests, and produce documentation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, QA, and operations
- Build proof-of-concept prototypes for rapid experimentation
- Work within a scrum team alongside ML and cloud engineers
Skills and Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with big data technologies such as Apache Iceberg, Spark, Spark ML, and Kafka
- Strong background in statistical analysis including correlation, regression, univariate, and multivariate analysis
- Proficiency in algorithms, data structures, UNIX/Linux, scripting, machine learning (classification and unsupervised clustering), data modeling, data warehousing, and networking
- Hands-on experience building REST APIs
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate and mentor in data engineering
- Strong desire and ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies
Preferred:
- Proficiency in Python
- 7+ years of experience in big data technologies such as AWS EMR, Iceberg, Spark, Kafka, and YARN
- Experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Spark ML
- Experience with REST API frameworks such as Flask, FastAPI, or Django
- Familiarity with data quality tools such as Monte Carlo, Great Expectations, or Databand
- Experience working with MLflow in ML/AI team environments
