Job description
Our customer is a large United States insurance company that is backed by more than 100 years of experience and provides insurance products and services for businesses and professionals in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Headquartered in Chicago, IL, they have more than 20 US locations.
We are seeking a Data Security Engineer on a contract basis to support their business needs. This role is 100% remote.
The primary objective of this role is to quickly become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the client's solutions, specifically Microsoft Purview and Securiti.ai. This expertise will be leveraged to enhance data loss prevention and data classification programs for both structured and unstructured data. The goal is to mitigate risks by utilizing these tools and other custom solutions. The analyst will use their experience to support the solution, identify issues, gaps, and risks, and develop an action plan for remediation.
Work schedule: M-F, 8 am - 5 pm CST
Responsibilities:
- Partner with cross-functional teams to support data security and protection initiatives
- Drive projects independently while overseeing managed service providers (MSPs)
- Develop and manage data classification frameworks, including sensitivity labeling and data handling standards
- Create and implement data discovery and labeling strategies
- Perform remediation activities related to user access and sensitive data exposure
- Collaborate with DLP teams to configure detection systems and prevent data exfiltration
- Develop, implement, and maintain DLP policies, response rules, and monitoring processes
- Analyze large datasets from multiple sources to identify risks and improve detection accuracy
- Conduct research to reduce false positives and enhance system effectiveness
- Communicate findings through clear reports, visualizations, and presentations
- Maintain understanding of critical data assets to proactively identify and mitigate risks
- Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive data
- Stay current on data security trends, tools, and best practices
Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of Data Loss Prevention (DLP), data classification, and data protection concepts
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals, including the OSI model
- Understanding of regulatory compliance requirements related to data security
- Experience analyzing and manipulating large datasets using investigative tools
- Ability to develop and manage DLP policies and rule lifecycles
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences
- Experience working with both structured and unstructured data
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with data classification tools and DLP technologies
- Familiarity with Microsoft Purview and Securiti.ai
- Experience with regex and data pattern identification
- Exposure to tools such as BigID, Varonis, SkyHigh, Forcepoint, Blue Coat, Proofpoint, or Netskope
- Familiarity with AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot
