Job description

Our customer is a leading global media and entertainment company that creates and distributes a large portfolio of content and brands across television, film, and streaming and is available in over 200 countries and territories and over 45 languages. Headquartered in New York, NY with more than 30 office locations in the United States.


We are seeking a Development Manager on a contract basis to support their business needs. This role is hybrid (3 days on-site and 2 days remote/week) in New York City.


The Development Manager supports the network’s programming team in overseeing the end-to-end development process for new content, ensuring projects meet business goals and uphold creative quality and innovation. This position is responsible for coordinating submissions, pilots, and concepts while building strong relationships with producers, agents, and other industry partners.



Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate tracking of submissions, concepts, and pilots to ensure alignment with editorial and business objectives.
  • Collaborate with the research department to test pilot concepts and maintain editorial integrity throughout development.
  • Field and manage communications from producers, agents, and filmmakers regarding proposals and programming needs.
  • Review development materials, including budgets, sample reels, proposals, and production schedules.
  • Generate and conceptualize new ideas for series, specials, and other programming initiatives.
  • Conduct research to develop internally generated programming concepts and Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
  • Participate in development meetings and provide editorial input on projects under consideration.
  • Build and maintain relationships with production companies, agents, and creative partners to identify new opportunities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure smooth coordination across creative, production, and business teams.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • 3+ years of experience in development for networks, with proven expertise in the true-crime and nonfiction genres (digital and linear).
  • Strong ability to generate and develop unique creative ideas through concept to greenlight.
  • Established industry relationships (agents, production companies, filmmakers, etc.).
  • Proven experience with stakeholder communication, creative strategy, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Strong organizational, editorial, and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Innovative and creative thinker with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong relationship builder with producers, agents, and the broader creative community.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Excellent prioritization, organization, and customer service mindset.


Preferred:

  • Portfolio or examples of past creative projects.
  • Experience across entertainment, documentary, reality, drama, and informational content.
  • Strong research skills and market awareness.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
