ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Digital Content Strategist to join our team on a part-time contractor basis. The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of experience managing content, with a proven track record of writing and editing across various digital platforms. This role requires a versatile writer who can quickly learn and align with a client's unique branding, messaging, industry, and goals.

This position is a part-time 1099 contractor role. A 1099 contractor is an independent worker who provides services to BigOrange, offering flexibility in how they complete their work and allowing BigOrange to adjust hours based on client demands. Unlike employees, 1099 contractors do not receive traditional benefits and are responsible for their own taxes. .

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Content Strategy & Creation: Develop and implement comprehensive digital content strategies that align with client goals and brand messaging. Write and edit high-quality content, including blog posts, landing pages, web content, and email campaigns. Assist businesses, content agencies, and marketing firms with creative ideas for promotional content, design elements, and advertisements. Ideate campaigns for marketing and own the content strategy for a website.
  • Inbound Marketing: Apply inbound marketing principles to create engaging content that drives traffic and leads. Utilize tools like HubSpot to manage content marketing efforts. Boost websites to the first page of search engines and get discovered by searchers, leveraging content to generate leads through websites and social media platforms.
  • Thorough Research: Execute informative and engaging content pieces like articles and whitepapers backed with thorough research. Learn clients’ content needs, understand their industry nuances, and provide strategic recommendations. Identify trends, content gaps, and target audience preferences.
  • Digital Expertise: Understand the overall digital content strategy and how it integrates with other digital marketing efforts. Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in SEO, content marketing, and social media. Ensure content creation for different platforms and distribution across multiple platforms and channels. Guide the content production team for SEO optimization, video editing, and graphic design to make it user and search-engine friendly.
  • Team Management: Source, manage, and assign work to other writers within the agency.Ensure that all content produced meets high-quality standards and is delivered on time.
  • Project Oversight: Oversee content projects from inception to completion, ensuring deadlines are met and deliverables exceed client expectations.
  • Comprehensive Content Calendar: Create a comprehensive content calendar to collaborate with cross-functional teams and align marketing campaigns.
  • Monitoring and Measuring Effectiveness: Monitor and measure the effectiveness and results of marketing campaigns and recommend ways to improve future content performance.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough audits and reviews of all content to ensure it aligns with client expectations and industry standards.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

The ideal candidate for this role must excel at juggling timely tasks, managing multiple schedules, and smoothly transitioning between writing and managing writers. You should be someone who thrives on planning your day ahead of time, prefers not to rush through tasks, and has a keen eye for detail, ensuring consistency across your work. Staying ahead of schedules and routinely double-checking your work should come naturally to you. You must be ready to dive into tasks hands-on, beyond merely delegating work, showing a proactive and engaged approach to every challenge.

Required:

  • Education: A BA/BS degree in Writing, Journalism, Marketing, or Business.
  • Experience: 8+ years in content management and strategy, preferably within a digital marketing agency. Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with experience in website development, digital marketing strategy, and direct experience with WordPress.
  • Writing Skills: Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt to various brand voices and styles. Experienced in combining good storytelling with SEO keywords.
  • Client Focus: Strong ability to meet directly with clients, understand their needs, and translate them into effective content strategies.
  • Team Leadership: Proven experience in managing and mentoring a team of remote writers, with a focus on high-quality output and meeting deadlines.
  • Digital Savvy: In-depth knowledge of digital marketing, inbound marketing principles, and tools like HubSpot. Strong understanding of SEO principles and keyword research. Understanding user behavior and user experience design. Familiarity with email marketing and social media marketing campaigns. Ability to work with customer relationship management (CRM) and marketing automation software.
  • Organizational Skills: Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively. Detail-oriented with a preference for planning, consistency, and double-checking work. Openness to hands-on work in addition to delegation.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a proactive approach to client and team interactions.

Bonus Skills:

  • Writing examples in the following industries: Managed Service Providers, Information Technology, Manufacturing, Home Builders & Developers, and Landscaping.
  • Knowledge of best practices to enhance user experience (UX).
  • Experience with Canva, SquareSpace, HubSpot, Constant Contact, Google Analytics, or familiarity with inbound marketing methodology, content management, and social media management.
  • HubSpot certification, or the ability to achieve certification within the first six months of employment.
  • Familiarity with using Asana as a project management tool.
