The Mom Project is excited to support Etsy with their search for an experienced HRBP Director to join them on a contract basis!
About The Role/Team
The Director, HRBP is a member of the People Strategy team and is part of the People & Workplace organization at Etsy. Our mission is to foster impactful and engaged teams that enable Etsy’s achievement of its long-term company strategy and goals. In this prestigious role, you will create and drive strategic talent strategies and solutions that strengthen Etsy’s business and brand, in partnership with Etsy’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO). This role is a critical interface between the People & Workplace organization and the rest of the business, acting both as an ambassador of our programs and services while relaying critical insights back to our teams to fortify our employee experience and workplace environment. This role reports to the VP, People Strategy.
Responsibilities include:
- Match Etsy’s marketplace strategy and goals with strategic talent solutions that drive team engagement and business impact
- Act as an ambassador of the People & Workplace mission, strategy, and our employee value proposition to the business
- Drive our flagship People programs into your part of the business in accordance with intended outcomes, including talent planning, succession planning, annual review, development check-ins, as key examples
- Partner with senior leaders to retain and develop critical talent, ensuring that roles, teams, and organizations are designed with business goals and talent development plans in mind
- Partner with senior leaders, Talent Acquisition, and Performance & Learning to assess, place, and onboard new talent in and across the organization that augments our collective competencies, skills, experiences, and values and fills critical gaps
- Coach senior leaders in modeling the right combination of humanity and high standards, whether in daily interactions or during significant organizational milestones
- Partner with senior leaders to design and communicate organizational changes that cause minimal disruption to goal achievement and team engagement
- Track and analyze people data and present actionable insights and strategies that improve team performance, retention, and engagement, partnering with our People Insights team
- Track and allocate headcount and compensation budgets in alignment with org design principles and broader strategic workforce planning goals, in partnership with Workforce Planning, Finance, Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, and senior leaders
- Partner with Employee Relations to ensure performance management, labor law, and/or employee handbook matters are managed in a legal, principled, and equitable manner
- Act as an interface between the business and Etsy’s Performance & Learning, DEI, Total Rewards, People Systems & Operations, People Insights, Workplace, and Communications teams to market our offerings, interject them into the business at appropriate times, while in turn helping these teams improve their offering and service quality
- Ensure your team members are motivated by common goals and have clear expectations for their roles and where to focus their efforts in the near- and long-term, adopting a feedback-oriented and collaborative management approach

- Ensure your fellow HRBPs supporting other parts of Etsy are well informed about your progress, plans, and problems to improve your collective impact
About You
- You have a 10+ year track record of translating business strategies into talent solutions in an HRBP or similar talent advisory role in a large, dynamic, customer-oriented company environment, with international experience a plus
- You are a strategic leader who thinks systematically and acts with initiative and integrity
- You have extensive experience collaborating cross-functionally with all HR functions, serving employees in multiple talent markets
- You have experience building and leveraging relationships with leaders across a variety of business functions, and are confident in making connections to further business objectives
- You have experience in overseeing employee relations matters in multiple talent markets, exercising principled judgment and high discretion
- You’re an excellent people manager, adept at driving high performance through clear feedback and expectations, and creating opportunities for career growth and innovation
- You’re adept at picking apart complex, ambiguous challenges while delivering fast results
- You’re adept at driving change in a way that sustains trust at every organizational level
- You’re proactive, creative, and iterative in your ways of working
- You have strong verbal, written, and visual presentation skills for multiple audiences
- You have demonstrable analytical skills for parsing people and financial data
Hours and Location:
- Monday - Friday, 40 hours/week
- Hybrid in Brooklyn, NY
