Job description
Editorial & Movement Operations Lead (Part-Time, Remote)
(Flexible, mission-driven editorial role)
We are launching a new national platform focused on flourishing neighborhoods—work grounded in two goals: reducing spatial inequality and rebuilding social connection, trust, and shared capacity in communities.
Our work bridges policy, place, and everyday practice. We research, synthesize, and publish thoughtful writing that helps practitioners, policymakers, and community leaders better understand how neighborhoods change—and how they can thrive.
We are seeking a part-time Editorial & Movement Operations Lead to support this work by researching topics, editing and publishing content, and helping keep a small, early-stage platform running smoothly.
This role is especially well suited to someone who is looking for flexible, remote work and enjoys behind-the-scenes editorial responsibility.
What you’ll do
- Research topics related to neighborhoods, equity, and social connection
- Enjoys storytelling and behind-the-scenes work that makes ideas land
- Edit submissions and help publish a weekly Substack newsletter
- Help manage an editorial calendar spanning narrative, practical guidance, and systems-level insight
- Coordinate partner contributions and podcast guests
- Support distribution via LinkedIn and email
- Assist with light-touch community and membership operations
This role is a good fit if you
- Are a strong researcher, editor, and clear writer
- Have experience in journalism, editing, publishing, or similar work (formal or informal)
- Are organized, dependable, and comfortable owning weekly deadlines
- Enjoy making other people’s ideas clearer and more accessible
- Are motivated by work that connects place, equity, and human relationships
How we work
- Fully remote and part-time
- Flexible hours, focused on results rather than strict schedules
- Small team, high trust, clear expectations
- Thoughtful pace and realistic workloads
This role is well suited to caregivers or parents working from home, as well as others seeking meaningful, flexible work.
Our hiring approach
We use a skills-first, low-bias hiring process inspired by organizations like Strong Towns. Early stages focus on short, work-relevant tasks (research, writing, and editing) reviewed anonymously. Resumes are reviewed later. We are especially interested in candidates from non-traditional backgrounds who are confident in their ability to do the work, regardless of where they’ve worked before.
All applicants applying for U.S. job openings must be legally authorized to work in the United States and are required to have U.S. residency at the time of application.
If you are a person with a disability needing assistance with the application, or at any point in the hiring process, please contact us at support@themomproject.com.
