Job description

We are seeking an Export Control Attorney on a contract basis to help support our customer’s business needs. This role is 100% remote.



Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day legal guidance on U.S. export control regulations, with a focus on dual-use items.
  • Counsel product development, hardware engineering, and supply chain teams throughout the product lifecycle on jurisdiction, classification (ECCN determination), and licensing requirements.
  • Analyze and determine export control implications of emerging technologies, dual-use hardware, advanced computing components, and robotics systems.
  • Assess international trade risks and provide guidance on cross-border technology transfers, hardware manufacturing, and global supply chain logistics.
  • Assist in the development, enhancement, and implementation of standard operating procedures, recordkeeping, and training programs tailored to hardware and technology development.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • Minimum 7+ years of legal experience specializing in export controls and international trade compliance.
  • Deep subject matter expertise in Export Administration Regulations (EAR), including complex classification and licensing matters.
  • Demonstrated experience counseling engineering and product teams on physical hardware, supply chains, manufacturing, and technical data transfers.
  • Strong knowledge of export control regulations related to dual-use technologies.
  • Strong analytical and risk assessment skills.
  • Ability to translate complex technical engineering concepts into practical legal guidance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in fast-paced technology environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience advising on consumer hardware products such as AR/VR devices, wearables, smart home devices, or advanced robotics systems.
  • Experience counseling on China, EU, and UK export controls and trade sanctions.
  • Experience supporting import and sanctions regulatory compliance.
  • Familiarity with ICTS and FCC Covered List rules.
