The Mom Project is excited to support Etsy with their search for a Global Payroll Specialist to join them on a contract basis.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Payroll, the temporary Global Payroll Specialist ensures accurate, timely and compliant payroll processing across the United States, Canada and Mexico. This role requires a strong service orientation, a high sense of urgency and the ability to build effective relationships with employees and cross functional teams. The specialist will back up to the Global Payroll Manager and handle employee requests, process semi-monthly payrolls in Workday, and assist with projects and audits. Experience in publicly traded companies and familiarity with equity compensation (RSUs/NQs) is valuable.
Key Responsibilities
- Process U.S., Canadian and Mexican payrolls as needed.
- Calculate regular and variable pay (e.g., commissions and bonuses), ensuring correct tax withholdings and deductions.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and support the preparation of semi-monthly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial and local payroll regulations in all jurisdictions; stay up-to-date on tax codes, wage laws and benefit requirements in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
- Process statutory benefits and equity compensation such as RSUs and non-qualified stock options (NQs), working closely with Finance and HR.
- Respond promptly to employee payroll inquiries and manage all payroll related Zendesk tickets through to closure.
- Provide clear, service-oriented communication to employees on pay statements, deductions and cross-border payroll questions.
- Use Workday payroll to process, audit and reconcile payrolls; update employee data and timesheets.
- Coordinate with OneSource Virtual (OSV) for garnishment processing and tax filings; experience with EY payroll platforms is a plus.
- Assist accounting teams in setting up new state/province tax and withholding IDs, and maintain compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
- Prepare international payroll files and ensure they meet local regulations.
- Liaise with finance teams to address currency fluctuations and exchange-rate considerations when paying employees in different currencies.
- Support ad hoc payroll and HR projects, including audits, systems improvements and year-end filings.
Skills and Experience
- 3+ years of payroll experience; prior experience processing payroll across the U.S., Canada and/or Mexico is strongly preferred.
- Workday payroll expertise is required; familiarity with OneSource Virtual and EY payroll platforms is a nice-to-have.
- Experience working in a publicly traded company, with exposure to SOX controls and equity compensation (RSUs/NQs).
- Strong numerical and analytical skills; proficiency in Excel and payroll software.
- Excellent communication and customer-service skills to handle sensitive employee inquiries with discretion.
- Ability to multitask and manage competing deadlines during payroll cycles.
- Certification such as CPP or Canadian PCP is desirable and demonstrates cross-border payroll expertise.
