Job description

Head of Business Development

100%Remote

Full Time

$70,000-75,000 Base + Commission Strucutre

About Client

They are a telecom and technology consultancy based in California. For twenty years, they have provided comprehensive consulting for the federal E-Rate program for schools and libraries. Recently, the team has reintroduced their professional services consulting across four core areas: Telecom Expense Management, Technical Assessments, RFP Development, and Technical Project Management.

The are looking for a full-time Head of Business Development to join the small, collaborative team, growing their E-Rate business and building out sales for professional services from the ground up.

About The Position

You will build, own, and continuously improve the full sales engine from lead generation through close and post-sale handoff across both our E-Rate practice and telecom and technology services. As such, we are looking for someone who has both the skillset and drive to oversee their own work themselves and thrives on working independently. You are the sales expert, and are expected to bring your own ideas and strategy to the table. We are looking for someone that can recognize when things aren’t working, get creative, and change things up accordingly. This is a high-ownership role for someone who enjoys a small business environment, which means wearing multiple hats, contributing ideas and suggestions, and pivoting when necessary. This position is fully remote, with limited in-person activity when required (conferences, client meetings, annual team meeting, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Owning the sales strategy end-to-end: developing it, executing it, iterating on it, and bringing new ideas to leadership. The ideal candidate is someone who sees what needs to be done and does it.
  • Generating leads across multiple channels including, but not limited to, cold calling, networking, events, referrals, warm hand-offs, webinars, and email outreach, with a proven track record of knowing when to use each.
  • Building and managing client relationships with clear, professional communication that accurately represents the company and their services.
  • Creating and executing strategic sales processes for both existing and new services, including identifying sales targets and KPIs, managing pipelines, analyzing performance, and building forecast models.
  • Producing polished, client-ready proposals and materials that are accurate and complete before they reach leadership or a client.
  • Contributing to the development of marketing and promotional materials, with the support of our marketing consultants as needed.
  • Owning and maintaining existing sales systems, ensuring data is accurate and normalized.
  • Delivering consistent, standardized, and organized reporting to leadership with clear definitions, trends, and insights via our weekly and monthly sales check-ins.
  • Executing outbound strategies responsibly, with an understanding of email deliverability, domain reputation, and email cadence.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record in sales, business development, or client services, with demonstrated success hitting or exceeding revenue targets.
  • Previous experience owning and improving sales operations and supporting systems - not just using them.
  • Proficient in building, refining, and standardizing reporting structures and dashboards in a directly responsible, individual role.
  • Experience in telecommunications and technology, particularly within education, government, and/or consulting is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with E-Rate is a significant plus.
  • A genuine self-starter: someone who identifies opportunities, brings ideas, and executes without needing to be prompted.
  • Multi-channel sales instincts. You know that the sales field is evolving and you are comfortable evolving with it and getting creative to come up with new ideas.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and highly organized, with an obsessive eye for detail.
  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while keeping leadership informed as needed.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office 365, CRM platforms, and Airtable is a plus.
  • Experience with cold outreach tools and email deliverability best practices such as cadence control and contact hygiene.

Team Values

  • We focus on building and improving systems and strategy, not just executing tasks.
  • We measure success by outcomes and impact, not just activity.
  • We take initiative by identifying what needs to be done and moving it forward.
  • We operate in a lean environment, and don’t rely on unnecessary layers of bureaucracy.
  • We maintain organized, consistent, and reliable data that others can trust and build from.
  • Flexibility is key. We are a small business and, as such, our day-to-day does not always look the same.
  • We work closely together. Feeling comfortable speaking up, offering ideas, or saying when something isn’t working or could be done better is appreciated!

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary plus commission.

• 401k with matching.

• Fully remote.

• Flexible hours - you don’t need permission to pick your kids up or go to a doctor’s appointment!

• Robust PTO (15 days) and paid holidays (15 days), for a total of 30 days or six weeks off each year.

• Monthly ICHRA health benefit reimbursements through StretchDollar.
