Job description
Our Customer is a wholesale bank and one of 11 district banks chartered in 1932 by the U.S. Congress to support mortgage lending and community investment. Each bank operates as an independent organization and is governed by a board of directors elected by its member institutions. As a cooperative, we provide reliable liquidity to our member banks, credit unions, insurance companies, and community development financial institutions located in Illinois and Wisconsin, focusing on the distinct needs of their individual businesses and communities.
We are seeking a HR Business Partner on a contract basis to support our Customer's business needs. This role is a hybrid setup (on-site attendance per Bank policy of at least 3 days per week and additional days per week as needed for coverage and/or meetings. 2 days remote) in Chicago, IL. This is a 6 month contract with the potential to extend.
Full-time, 37.5 hours/week
The Human Resources Business Partner partners with assigned business groups to help drive the Bank’s People vision and strategy. As part of the People Culture and Communication (PCC) team, the HR Business Partner acts as the face of HR to the Bank, while also advancing initiatives that support attracting and retaining top talent and building the brand as an employer of choice.
What You'll Do:
- Advises Group Heads and managers on people and culture initiatives, acting as a true partner to the business.
- Coaches managers on employee relations issues and on the interpretation of personnel policies and procedures.
- Conducts regular 1:1 meetings with employees to build relationships and act as employee coach when needed.
- Facilitates the performance evaluation process, working with managers to provide accurate and thoughtful feedback to employees. Assists employees in development of strong and meaningful goals.
- Supports the talent review process for assigned business groups, identifying high potential employees for succession planning.
- Assists with business reorganizations or reductions in force, including communication strategy.
- Executes on HR projects and initiatives, working with colleagues to meet project timetable and deadlines.
- Conducts orientation process for new employees as needed, coordinating with other departments, and ensuring a strong new hire experience.
- Act as resource and “voice of the business” to stakeholders in PCC – attends various internal meetings and provides status updates to inform colleagues of developments within assigned business groups.
- Acts as a backup to the Recruiter on candidate scheduling, communications and screening interviews for assigned business groups.
- Performs behavioral interviews of candidates for assigned business groups as needed.
- Facilitates 360 reviews as requested with vendor, manager, and employee.
- Works with HR Team to review and develop Bank policies and procedures.
- Inputs personnel related actions and changes in Workday.
- Provides reporting on staff related information.
- Completes other duties as requested.
Must-Haves:
- Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience
- 5-7 years human resources experience
- Advanced degree or PHR/SPHR certification a plus
- Banking or Financial Services experience a plus
- HRIS experience required; Workday experience a plus
- Strong proficiency in MS Office products (Excel, Outlook, Access, and Word)
- Experience with analytical software and data visualization tools (MS Excel, Tableau, PowerBI, etc.) a plus
- Self-driven with a strong track record of initiative and accountability; willingness to roll up their sleeves to accomplish any task on a smaller HR team
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, able to consider multiple points of view and present solutions to meet stakeholder needs
- Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and listening)
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with ability to develop relationships across all levels of the organization and collaborate effectively
- High degree of professionalism, diplomacy and emotional intelligence
- Strong business judgment; knows when to seek guidance or clarification
