Job Description
The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) is responsible for collaborating with business leaders across the company to deliver talent insights, provide thought partnership, and ensure that our people strategies are effectively aligned with Etsy’s overall business goals. This contract role is part of Etsy’s People Team and typically reports to a Senior Manager, HR Business Partner.
In addition to directly supporting a smaller business unit, this hybrid role also provides administrative and operational support to the broader HRBP team across Product, Operations, and Marketing. This includes coordinating talent programs, managing People-related requests, and ensuring smooth execution of HR processes and deliverables.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesOrganizational Partnership & Effectiveness
- Partner with the Senior Manager, HRBP to support organizational design and restructuring initiatives, including workforce planning, job analysis, talent gap identification, and change management.
- Support staffing needs by working with managers and the Talent Acquisition team to ensure appropriate scoping, leveling, and consideration of internal mobility.
- Attend select business or team meetings to provide People team context and stay informed on business priorities.
- Support the creation and monitoring of HR analytics and dashboards related to performance, staffing, and spend, collaborating with HRIS and People Analytics as needed.
- Reinforce understanding of recurring performance management processes (goal setting, quarterly check-ins, feedback) and support related training or information sessions.
- During performance cycles, assist with communication of timelines and processes, support calibration prep, and provide guidance on promotions, leveling, and compensation.
- Partner with HRIS, Compensation, and Legal & Employee Relations (L&E) to ensure a seamless performance management experience.
- Provide support on employee relations issues in coordination with the Senior Manager, HRBP, Employee Relations, and Legal teams.
- Support managers with performance documentation, including writing and preparing Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs).
- Assist in investigations and research for employee complaints or grievances.
- When necessary, support the operational steps for involuntary terminations, in partnership with HR and Workplace teams.
- Provide day-to-day administrative and operational support to HRBPs across Product, Operations, and Marketing.
- Coordinate and track participation in Performance programs (e.g., Annual Review, Talent Planning,, Engagement surveys, etc).
- Prepare and submit documentation for gift card requests, leave coverage bonuses, and other employee related tasks.
- Support PIP documentation and processing for assigned and supported teams.
- Assist in maintaining and organizing shared HRBP resources, templates, and trackers to ensure process consistency and efficiency.
- If/when applicable provide coverage for HRBPs during leaves or absences to ensure business continuity and timely response to People-related inquiries.
- Initiate or complete personnel actions (e.g., salary changes, manager updates, position changes) in Workday or via approved channels.
- Partner with shared services (HRIS, Payroll, Benefits, Compensation) to troubleshoot and coordinate complex operational issues or reorgs.
- Monitor HR communication channels (e.g., Slack, HR@ inbox) and respond to or escalate requests as needed.
- Serve as a backup responder in HR forums and systems when primary HRBPs are unavailable.
- Contribute to cross-company People team initiatives, such as improving processes, enhancing efficiency, or piloting new programs.
- Collaborate with HRBP peers to align business needs with People team strategies and ensure consistent employee experiences across functions.
- 4+ years of experience as an HR Generalist, HRBP, or equivalent, with exposure to multiple HR functional areas.
- Demonstrated judgment, discretion, and ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Provides effective operational and administrative support to assigned HRBPs and business partners.
- Ensures accurate and timely processing of People-related documentation and program coordination.
- Maintains coverage and support continuity during HRBP absences.
- Builds trusted partnerships with leaders, managers, and HR colleagues.
- Demonstrates strong understanding of both the business unit they support directly and the broader organizational HR processes.
Hours and Location:
- Core working hours - EST schedule
- Hybrid - seeking a candidate able to work in the Brooklyn office 2 days per week
