Job description

Contract with potential to go perm

Hours- 12-20 a week with growth potential

Pay- $25 - $30

The Mom Project is partnering with a leading, fast-growing company to find an HR Consultant to support its growing team and evolving HR needs. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR professional who enjoys working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and can provide both strategic guidance and hands-on support across a range of HR initiatives. The ideal candidate will be a trusted partner to leadership and employees, helping strengthen HR processes while contributing to a positive and engaging employee experience.

Core Responsibilities

  • Onboarding and offboarding execution — employment paperwork, tool and system provisioning, equipment ordering, office access, first-week scheduling, and walking new hires through benefits and policies across our Canadian and US entities
  • SOC 2 compliance tracking — own the employee-lifecycle evidence in Vanta: background checks, security awareness training completion, MDM enrollment, policy acceptance, and access revocation records at offboarding
  • HRIS data ownership — keep employee records, PTO balances, and the OOO calendar accurate and current in Collage (Canada) and Justworks (US)
  • Benefits administration coordination — manage open enrollment logistics with Justworks and CanadaLife, and route employee questions to the right broker or carrier
  • HR inquiry triage — employment verification letters, benefits questions, policy lookups, and PTO/leave tracking
  • Recruiting coordination — manage job postings and hiring workflows in Lever, schedule interviews, handle candidate communication, and run initial resume screens against defined criteria
  • Documentation — assemble and organize internal HR documentation as new policies and processes are rolled out

Qualifications/Skills

  • 3+ years in HR operations, People Operations, or a similar generalist/coordinator role
  • Experience at a startup or scaleup between roughly 50 and 300 employees — you're comfortable building process where none exists rather than inheriting it
  • Hands-on ownership of an HRIS (Collage, BambooHR, Rippling, Justworks, HiBob, or similar) — not just using it, but maintaining the data
  • ATS experience (Lever, Greenhouse, or comparable), including reviewing resumes and coordinating interview logistics
  • Strong discretion — you'll have visibility into compensation, offer details, and personal employee data
  • Self-directed and organized enough to manage a recurring compliance cadence without reminders
  • Exposure to both Canadian and US employment administration, particularly Ontario and New York

Company Benefits/Perks

  • Fully flexible, remote-first schedule — set your own hours within a four-day-minimum spread
  • Direct access to leadership — you'll work alongside their CEO, COO, and Leadership Team, not 3 layers down
  • Real ownership from day one — this isn't backfill work. You'd be defining how HR operations run as they scale past 100 people
  • A clear build project, not a maintenance queue — the systems you set up will be the foundation the company uses going forward
  • Potential to extend or expand — we're open to growing this engagement in scope or hours for the right person

All applicants applying for U.S. job openings must be legally authorized to work in the United States and are required to have U.S. residency at the time of application.

Screening Questions

  • Which areas of HR are you most experienced in? Conversely, which areas do you not have experience in?
  • Describe an HR process or system you built from scratch. What existed before you, and what did you leave behind when you moved on?
  • Do you have experience with international employee bases, particularly Canada? If yes, please describe.
  • This role requires ~15 hours per week of work. How would you ideally spread this over the week?
