Job description
A partner of The Mom Project in the automotive industry is seeking a contract Industrial Engineering Intern to help support their business needs.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in collecting and analyzing production, labor, and process data to improve workflow, efficiency, and resource utilization
- Observe manufacturing operations and document current processes, work balance, and sequence of operations
- Participate in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
- Assist with documenting process improvements and standardized work
- Conduct time studies, motion analysis, and standardized work reviews
- Provide technical and analytical support to manufacturing, maintenance, and production teams
- Support plant layout activities using AutoCAD
- Learn manufacturing systems, plant workflows, and industrial engineering methods through hands-on experience
- Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams on operational improvement projects
Skills and Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field (ideally a sophomore at Western Kentucky or any 4-year institution)
- 0-2 years of related experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Ability to accurately document information
- Interest in manufacturing operations, lean principles, and continuous improvement
Hours and Location:
- This is an on-site role based in Bowling Green, KY. Work hours will be determined once a candidate is selected and can be adjusted to accommodate school schedules.
- The role is typically Monday through Friday, with flexibility around which days are spent onsite. There is no strict in-office schedule.
- This position is ideal for college students, particularly those attending local universities. The team is accustomed to working around class schedules and offers a high level of flexibility.
- Candidates may work up to 32 hours per week
