Job description
Our client is seeking a part-time Interim Controller. This position is 100% remote and will be 25-30 hours per week during weekday, normal business hours.

Their bakeries are filled with the delicious tastes and sweet smells of cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pies, and bars- all baked from scratch, on-site daily, using the freshest and finest ingredients.
Our bakeries mix the nostalgia of the past with the warmth and feel of a modern, neighborhood bakery.
The Interim Controller will lead all accounting aspects for operations and company owned bakeries, including payroll, the monthly close process, issuance of accurate and timely financial statements, cash management, general day-to-day accounting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
Responsibilities:
Accounting and Financial Reporting
- Monthly close process which requires a formal team-based monthly detail review of bakery level results and established protocol for summarizing and reviewing the outcome with the CFO, VP of Operations and CEO as requested.
- Provide accurate and timely consolidated monthly financials and results for bakery operations, bakery level trend analysis. Review of transactions, documentation, account reconciliations and journal entries.
- Provide assistance to the CFO in preparing financial presentations for senior management and investors.
- Manage and lead the relationship with external tax consultants and preparation of the annual tax return.
- Assist the CFO with investor communications as it relates to annual tax matters and financial reporting.
- Manage and coordinate primary banking relationships.
Payroll
- Review and approve bi-weekly payroll and ad-hoc final checks, ensuring compliance with Company Policy and applicable labor and final pay laws for CA, TX, TN and OK.
- Process Same-Day ACH Direct Deposits timely and in compliance with Company Policy and applicable labor laws.
- Provide support and backup coverage to the Payroll Manager for final check processing, email management and benefits support.
- Provide set-up and audit support during Open Enrollment.
Operations and Other
- Support the CFO in preparing ad hoc business-related financial analysis by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends including bakery level segmentation and modeling based on historical trends and performance.
- Special projects as needed.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS in Accounting, Masters a plus
- Active Certified Public Accountant
- 5+ years of industry and prior public accounting experience
- Demonstrated experience as Controller leading the monthly financial close process with the ability to demonstrate implementation of best practices and professional mentoring of staff to maximize month-end close efficiency using a risk based approach
- Prior experience preparing and reviewing financial statements including balance sheet, income statement, cash flow and footnote disclosures
- Prior experience managing Payroll and interaction with 3rd party payroll processors
- Prior Experience with ADP Workforce Now
- Prior Experience with Sage Intacct
- Prior experience managing Accounts Payable, including a 3-way match system
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, technical accounting research and documentation. Experience in lease accounting is a plus
- Proven excellence of interpersonal skills dealing with internal and external stakeholders and external advisors
- Multi-unit retail industry experience will be given priority
- Prior private equity backed company and transaction diligence experience a plus

- Responsibility: Natural tendency to take complete ownership of all aspects of departmental oversight
- Technical Skills: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office including Word, and Excel
- Project Management: Ability to meet strict deadlines and prioritize using a risk based report that acknowledges the importance of materiality in a fast growing organization
