The Position

As the Internal Communications Specialist (contractor) for Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) Business Operations & Communications, you will help translate business strategies into key messages, create internal/employee communications content, and lead programs that create excitement, drive engagement, align teams and shape culture. This role involves fostering relationships across the organization to support different initiatives and leaders through the development of communication strategies and materials. Leveraging internal expertise and external best practices, this role will deliver innovation in support of gREDs vision, strategy and culture.
The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills and a natural ability to think strategically while delivering tactical results. This role reports to the Senior Director of Communications and works cross functionally to implement best-in-class organizational communications. You must be an effective communicator, a strong collaborator, and comfortable leveraging a variety of digital tools to build our internal communications capabilities.

Responsibilities:
Provide communications support to various gRED functions - assisting with the development and conceptualization of campaigns, communications strategies, all hands meetings, and ongoing communications support.
Create well-written, researched, validated, clear, consistent business communications on a range of topics that span organizational announcements, newsletters, meeting presentations and multimedia.
Manage quarterly organizational announcements, including editing and distribution.
Manage the planning, coordination and execution of internal employee events and meetings as needed and appropriate.
Develop surveys and metrics reports to measure impact of internal communications.
Manage editorial calendar and ensure appropriate cadence of new content.
Manage digital communications, including the intranet site, developing content, ensuring that it is up-to-date, engaging, and informative.
Use internal channels to maximize internal communication effectiveness and ensure consistent messaging, branding, imagery and identity.
Develop impactful and engaging content that effectively describes and promotes Diversity & Inclusion.
Implement metrics reports and create surveys to measure effectiveness of internal communication channels and measure internal communications with the goal of continuously improving internal communications strategy to reach and engage employees.

Qualifications:
BS/BA required

Experience:
7 - 10 years of experience in a communications role in a large, matrixed healthcare organization
Experience with Adobe suite of creative tools
Experience with Google suite
Experience with Slack, Poppulo and Wordpress
Biotech or pharma experience in the research/early discovery and development area is highly desirable
Strong understanding of internal communications, employee engagement, and channels management
Strong writing and editing skills

Excellent organizational and administrative skills with strong attention to detail.
Highly motivated, persuasive, priority-driven and collaborative.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in small and large groups.
Consistently demonstrate strong business acumen and judgment.
Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Willingness to build relationships and collaborate across the broader organization.
Strong team player with the ability to work effectively with partners and staff at all levels.
