Job description

Our customer is a large United States insurance company that is backed by more than 100 years of experience and provides insurance products and services for businesses and professionals in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Headquartered in Chicago, IL, they have more than 20 US locations.


We are seeking an IT Disaster Recovery Senior Specialist on a contract basis to support their business needs. This role is 100% remote.



Responsibilities:

  • Support the review, coordination, and approval of disaster recovery (DR) plans and processes to ensure data and system integrity
  • Partner with technical SMEs, application owners, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to support DR exercises and validation activities
  • Maintain and support enterprise DR execution plans, including system dependencies and interdependencies
  • Document DR exercises and consolidate results for reporting to senior leadership
  • Update and maintain DR runbooks for core business technologies in collaboration with technology teams
  • Support risk, impact, and system impact analysis to identify critical systems for business continuity
  • Translate DR exercise findings into business-relevant risk insights and support mitigation planning
  • Participate in assessments of potential technology disruptions, including support for DR activation and disaster declarations
  • Contribute to program status communications, including reporting for leadership, auditors, regulators, and customers
  • Develop and maintain DR training materials, procedures, and documentation
  • Support organization-wide DR awareness and communication efforts
  • Perform additional DR-related duties as assigned


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Process Management, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in Information Technology with a focus on disaster recovery or business continuity
  • Proven experience supporting enterprise DR exercises in multi-site environments, including testing, validation, and post-exercise analysis
  • Strong understanding of DR architectures across on-premise, hosted, and cloud environments
  • Knowledge of backup, replication, restore, and recovery technologies
  • Understanding of enterprise infrastructure components, including storage, networking, and system dependencies
  • Familiarity with security principles related to disaster recovery, including incident response, access control, and monitoring
  • Working knowledge of DR runbooks, testing methodologies, and validation practices
  • Ability to interpret system dependencies, recovery sequencing, and recovery timelines
  • Understanding of RTO/RPO objectives and their impact on recovery strategies and business risk
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as ISO 27001, ISO 22301, ISO 19011, and ISO 22316
  • Strong project coordination and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify gaps and support remediation efforts
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams, leadership, auditors, regulators, and external partners

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree
  • Certifications such as Disaster Recovery Certified Specialist (DRCS), Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), or Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Experience with crisis management coordination and response
