Job description

Our Customer is a leading value-added distributor in North America providing expertise, solutions and products from infrastructure, plumbing and appliances to HVAC, fire, fabrication and more. They exist to make their customers’ complex projects simple, successful and sustainable. With over 1 million customers, they have a very distinctive culture anchored in customer service. “We are a relationship business. Together we help build more than homes and office buildings. We help build relationships, trust, confidence and community.”

We are seeking an IT Implementation Engineer on a contract basis to support their business needs. This role is 100% remote.

This role is responsible for supporting a designated project team focused on analyzing legacy voice services, including POTS, and driving migration to current standard solutions or decommissioning where appropriate. Responsibilities include identifying and migrating legacy telephony, fax, and alarm services to modern platforms, coordinating with third-party vendors to ensure seamless installation of replacement services and disconnection of legacy systems, and partnering with branch contacts to support smooth transitions. The role also involves providing updates to internal teams on project progress and ensuring proper handoff to ongoing support processes as needed.

The position requires strong analytical, organizational, coordination, and communication skills, along with a solid understanding of voice services and alarm communications. Success in this role depends on the ability to work independently, apply discretion within established operational guidelines, and proactively address branch needs while collaborating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

This role involves managing complex problem-solving within the project scope, including analyzing issues, identifying gaps in existing processes, and recommending improvements to standard procedures. It requires leveraging available resources, such as documentation and team collaboration, while contributing to the development of best practices for recurring challenges.

Functionally, this position operates similarly to a project coordinator or technical business analyst, without requiring formal certification. Responsibilities include conducting independent research, validating data and requirements, placing service orders, coordinating across 20–30+ sites within the project scope, and facilitating communication across multiple internal and external teams. Key stakeholders include project managers, branch associates, technical teams, security and facilities teams, and external vendors, requiring clear and effective communication across varying levels of technical expertise.

The role is focused specifically on telecommunications, with an emphasis on voice services, e-fax, and alarm communication systems. Responsibilities do not include wireless communications or data routing.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm EST; 1-hour unpaid lunch.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze information from multiple sources to determine telecommunications and alarm system needs across assigned locations
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, including analysis, validation, installation, porting, and disconnection activities
  • Coordinate installation of POTS-in-a-Box systems for alarm services
  • Facilitate porting of toll-free and POTS lines to modern voice solutions such as VoIP and enterprise platforms
  • Coordinate migration of fax lines to electronic fax services where applicable
  • Partner with vendors and internal teams to ensure timely implementation, cutover, and post-install support
  • Execute standardized processes to coordinate, install, test, and validate new telecom services
  • Maintain accurate documentation and tracking of work orders across enterprise tools
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, security, and response teams to ensure seamless execution
  • Manage third-party contractors to minimize operational disruption
  • Participate in team meetings and communicate project updates and risks to leadership

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in voice telecommunications
  • Experience managing multiple projects or sites simultaneously
  • Strong understanding of telecommunications systems, particularly voice services
  • Experience with telecom service analysis, implementation, and porting processes
  • Familiarity with security and fire alarm systems or related regulations
  • Experience in enterprise-level project coordination and execution
  • Experience gathering and validating technical requirements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and prioritization skills
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical abilities with attention to detail
  • Ability to learn quickly, work independently, and adapt to new technologies
  • Ability to identify knowledge gaps and proactively seek clarification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with AT&T BVoIP, ReadyLine, IPTF, EtherFAX, and POTS-in-a-Box systems
  • Familiarity with AT&T porting processes
  • Experience with multiple telecom technologies from a coordination or engineering perspective
  • Knowledge of alarm system communications across POTS, radio, or cellular pathways
  • Familiarity with alarm monitoring vendors and related terminology
  • Experience with tools such as Zendesk, Telecom Expense Management (TEM) platforms, MetTel Bruin, or ServiceChannel
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote and collaborative environment
  • Strong professional presence with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
