Job description

The Mom Project is proud to partner with a well-known utility company in their search for a Junior Accountant.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of accounting assignments within a business unit or functional area
  • Record, review, and report financial transactions accurately and timely manner
  • Prepare and post journal entries and perform bank reconciliations
  • Support and participate in the monthly financial close process
  • Analyze financial statements and investigate variances between actuals and prior periods or forecasts
  • Prepare monthly reporting packages for internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley control requirements
  • Maintain internal controls and identify opportunities for process improvement
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis in coordination with FP&A
  • Prepare annual financial statements and periodic regulatory filings when required
  • Code invoices, set up new accounts, reconcile balances, and close monthly books
  • Verify deposits, resolve bank inquiries, and support cash management activities
  • Serve as an accounting liaison with operations and FP&A to resolve accounting questions
  • Assist with internal and external audits by gathering documentation and responding to inquiries
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support regulatory compliance and business planning


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • 1-3 years of accounting experience
  • Proven experience preparing journal entries and performing bank reconciliations
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate and explain financial variances
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with ERP systems preferred; SAP experience is a plus
  • Background aligned with general accounting or bookkeeping functions preferred
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively across teams
  • High standards of professionalism, integrity, and quality


Hours and Location:

  • M-F, 40 hours/week
  • 100% remote in EST
